Review: Six Moon Summer

Six Moon Summer by S.M. Reine
Publication Date: March 15th 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal
Pages: 198 (ebook)
Goodreads

Summary

Rylie's been bitten.

She's changing.

And now she has three months to find a cure before becoming a werewolf... forever.

Rylie Gresham hates everything about summer camp: the food, the fresh air, the dumb activities, and the other girls in her cabin. But the worst part is probably being bitten by a werewolf. Being a teenager is hard enough, but now she's craving raw flesh and struggles with uncontrollable anger. If she doesn't figure out a way to stop the transformation, then at the end of summer, her life is worse than over. She'll be a monster.

A fantastic book where things go bump in the night.

There's nothing pretty about being a victim of a wolf attack late at night and Rylie soon finds that out. Not only is Rylie living her summer in the fresh air but this book is a refreshing of words for the YA Paranormal genre. S.M Reine creates a beautifully real world that sadly gets turned to shreds in Rylie's eyes.

In the beginning I thought Rylie was being a slight baby. Complaining about everything, not going along with anything going on at the camp and I didn't like her because of this. However, after the attack she started to grow stronger (pun not intended). She started to mature as the book went on and then I started to fall for our main heroine.

And when she went through her changes. Omigod, they were crazy. The details S.M Reine wrote during these scenes were amazing. I was cringing, imaging that exact same thing happening to me and it gave gives me the chills. Truly beautiful if you like the creeps. I think out of all the books I've read only one other described a painful change, the rest either sugar coated or didn't even explain them at all. Personally, I like the explaining ones.

Now through these changes she has a little help from a friend. His name is Seth and throughout this book I thought there was something suspicious about him. And there is, but that's a secret I will not speak of, you'll just have to get this book to find out. At first I didn't fall head over heels for him. However at the end of the book when we got to see through his eyes, I did! And I can't wait to get to the second book. Thankfully I got it the same time I got the first one- when they were both free.

Overall this is one fun staggering read. All the characters work well for me. The mean girls, the counselors, the friends (loved that scene, once again a secret), the other werewolves. Truly an incredible story. A favorite one for this year.

Oh, and I loved S.M Reine unique twist with the moons. We mostly get full moon you change. But in the beginning of transitions from human to wolf, you aren't able to be just afraid of one moon anymore.

Purity by Jackson Pearce
Publication Date: April 24th 2012
Genre: YA Contemporary
Pages: 224

Summary

A novel about love, loss, and sex -- but not necessarily in that order.

Before her mother died, Shelby promised three things: to listen to her father, to love as much as possible, and to live without restraint. Those Promises become harder to keep when Shelby's father joins the planning committee for the Princess Ball, an annual dance that ends with a ceremonial vow to live pure lives -- in other words, no "bad behavior," no breaking the rules, and definitely no sex.

Torn between Promises One and Three, Shelby makes a decision -- to exploit a loophole and lose her virginity before taking the vow. But somewhere between failed hookup attempts and helping her dad plan the ball, Shelby starts to understand what her mother really meant, what her father really needs, and who really has the right to her purity.

Doesn't the cover just look cute. It's simple and sometimes that's all a book really needs. Can't wait for this one to come out. :)

I'm starting to fall in love with Contemporary books.

Movie Review: Radio Rebel

Summary

High schooler Tara, a girl so painfully shy that she can't even write a single letter on the board in front of a class, has an awesome secret - she is "Radio Rebel". When Tara puts on that headset in her room and does her daily podcast, she becomes a confident, outspoken, inspiring, anonymous voice on the airwaves.

When her stepfather, the owner/producer guy at SLAM radio, finds out that Tara is Radio Rebel, Tara gets to move from her bedroom to a sound studio to do live shows for SLAM. Everything is the perfect amount of chaos until Principal Moreno, whose only goal in life seems to be to destroy others, cancels Prom and all the students blame Rebel.

Just like any other Disney Channel original movie they always have a message in the end. This one is no different.

Standing tall, being true to ones self, and going against the cliques that this world sadly has. Though, it's not all of our faults, it's been like that for centuries.

Debby Ryan is really starting to grow on me and I think she did a fabulous job in this one. Acting so shy that you can't even write on a board is crazy to think. I'm shy but not that shy and truthfully I have never met such a person so it was kind of interesting to see her act this way.

You maybe asking yourself this. If she's so shy how can she have her own radio show? Well, it's not impossible. I'm shy when it comes to new people- face to face- but when I'm on the computer and chatting away with others- I'm completely different. (well, not completely- but I'm more confident). And I'm pretty sure that's true to others out there too.

I loved this movie. I got swept away and was happy with how it ended. To the changes that the popular people didn't like, the sweet soon to be romance between her and gavin, her crazy but fun mother, her two best friends (one best friend and her crazy drama exercises), and her guy friends were awesome and all that was what made this movie very, very enjoyable.

Gavin was swoon worthy, ladies. He's a musical and my knees buckle everytime when it comes to them. Plus, it didn't help that he was just the sweetest thing ever. No matter what, he was always there for Debby's character. Loved.

Overall, this was very entertaining. Most definitely a rewatch. Great for all ages. Humorous with romance and if you're a fan of those then this is a much watch. :)

She had a strange feeling that something had cut through the air and ripped a curtain between reality and another plane. And she had entered a shadow universe that few people see.

Review: The Angel Experiment

The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride #1) by James Patterson
Publication Date: April 11, 2005
Genre: YA Fantasy, Science Fiction
Pages: 422

Summary

Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time...like when Angel, the youngest member of the flock, is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were experimented on by a crew of wack jobs. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb--now her betrayed and greatest enemy--that her purpose is save the world--but can she?

I'm kind of torn about this book. I didn't completely like it, but I know I didn't hate it.

"The funny thing about facing imminent death is that it really snaps everything else into perspective."

You know how when you like a singer or a band and you buy their new CD without hearing a single song, expecting to like it, but not get what you expected? Well, that's how I felt about this book. My dad got me this book, along with another of Patterson's books, Witch and Wizard, for my birthday. I read and liked Witch and Wizard, and I read another of his books before that and liked it, too. So, when I started reading this one, I had expectations that, in the end, it didn't meet.

Most of the main characters I didn't like. Max, Fang, Nudge, and Angel all annoyed me. I didn't really feel anything for Gasman. The only one I actually liked was Iggy.

The book started out okay, giving me hope for the rest of the book. But then there was about a hundred pages of stuff that, in my opinon, were not needed. The book did get better the more I read, but not enough to completely save the book. There were some confusing plot points, that really didn't go with the rest of the book, that I guess were supposed to lead into the next book. Which is fine by me if I was compleled to read the next book, but in this case I'm not sure. (I'm kind of leaning toward no.)

Now, the way I rate this book is slightly different. I gave it a 3 star rating because I'm rounding up. It deserved more than a 2.5 but is not quite a 3 star book. My rating is acually more like a 2.8.

At the time these were free when I got them.

Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb: The Graphic Novel by MJA Ware. I got it because I thought it be cool and my brother is more into these books then the regular plain only words one. He isn't much into reading.

Library Fun!

Woohoo! Finally had time a got a new library card (since our old ones are lost and totally expired, haha) and I had so much fun. I wanted so many books but with school I wouldn't have much time.

I know where I'll be hanging out most of my summer. :)

Elixir by Hilary Duff (sound reading). Because of the reviews (mostly bad) I thought maybe hearing it would make the experience better. Is it better? Has anyone heard it and thought so?

Cloaked by Alex Flinn

My Big Nose and Other Natural Disasters by Sydney Salter. Loving it!

Happy Reading Everybody!
Peace

I also got a new library card. And let me just say, I like being in a library.
