~Summary~

Thirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.

A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.

To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.

~My Thoughts~

*was given a copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinions*

First off, before I get to my coherent review all I have to say is this….I must, must get my hands on the second book!! Oh my god’s, why did it end there! How could you! So not fair!! haha, okay now let me compose myself….
….From the moment I started reading I was consumed by this spine chilling world Mrs. Haygert has created! That scene in the beginning where Nadine is reading the newspaper headlines I knew this was going to be one intense read! And it was for the second half of the book. Again, I must get the sequel!!
Don’t get me wrong, the first half was great too! However it was mainly world building and character development but things happened too, trust me! Like giant bats attacking Nadine, visions, and her having a crazy power to heal two guys and Nadine doesn’t even knows why. Plus, for some reason one of the guys can repel the evil bats that roam the skies. Crazy!
This was so original, unique, and absolutely gripping of a read! I’m so glad that Mrs. Haygert came to me because this book is amazing! This is one series any paranormal lover shall read! And if you’re a fan of Legion the movie like I am, then you’re going to love the second half of the book! Though sadly there aren’t any old ladies with sharp teeth that like to eat raw meat after our trio but there are crazy size bats, gods, and demons after them! So intense!
Completely sitting on the edge kind of book, I just couldn’t stop turning the pages, and I even stayed up late at night just to see what happens! Yeah, it’s that good of a book as I don’t do that very often (this girl likes her beauty sleep, haha).
You guys know me and how I’m not the biggest fans of love triangles. So when two guys came into Nadine’s life, I of course rolled my eyes. However I believe Mrs. Haygert did it well! Nadine wasn’t in love with both of them, thankfully. So I was able to enjoy the relationships blooming, #TeamVictor! (yeah, I just did that. haha)
"I won't! What do you want me to say?" He paced forward, making me retreat. "Want me to tell you that you get to me? That since the first time I saw you, you affected me?" His voice was high and rough. "That I tried not looking for you every time I felt the pain because I knew I would be weak and fall for you? Do you realize that everyone I have ever loved is now dead?" He trapped me between the bed and him. "Should I tell you I'm scared of getting close to anyone because they might end up dead? That I'm scared of getting close to you? That I'm scared of losing you?"
Overall this is a must read! A series I am dying to continue! Though this wasn’t perfect as I was able to step away from it for a bit, I still enjoyed this when I got back to it and that’s when I truly couldn’t put it down again. So if you love twist and turns, maddening gods, visions becoming real, a unique world, melt worthy scenes, the fate sisters, and all in all a great story line then you should definitely check out this book!
