Week One- 9 chapters, 1-88 pages

 

Now, straight to the discussion pieces. Enjoy!

 

So, you know the basic. Their helicopter crashes in the middle of the islands of Vancouver, right? Okay then. The first 9 chapters are just that, it crashes in the first few and now they are trying to survive. And if, which I really hope, you've read the first book you know something isn’t right. So, along these chapters they are trying to put the pieces together of what the hell is going on.

Okay then, let’s start this discussion, shall we? Red is for the questions, purple is for the answers.

 

          

           T: Which side would you be on- would you stay on the beach and near the crash where “supposed rescue team” might find you or search in the dark forest for help with people who know the forest like they know the back of their hand?

            A: Me, I would trust my friends, so I would go look for help. Yes, if I was in the position where I didn’t know much about the forest, I would no doubt be scared. However, I think I’d be more scared of the men that were after us.

            A: Do you think the people that are after the kids, actually trying to help them or are they the ones that created them?

            T: I could see either being true. They seem to be trying to hurt them, so it would be a twist for them to try to help. But my money is on them being the ones who created the kids. Just more likely.  

            T: If you found out you were a skin-walker or a demon- hunter, what would you do?

            A: First, if I was either, I would test out these supposedly gift that come with those titles. Just to see if it were real. And then, if the gifts were real, I no doubt I’d be a little uneasy. But since I adore paranormal/otherworldly books, I might come to the decision that this is kinda cool! Going from there, I’d look up more information about my new found gifts.

            A: Do you have any theories for what might be in the water? The things that are so keen on drowning people?

            T: I think it could be another kid that was created. Or it just could be some kind of creature that lived around the island. Whatever it is, it probably be fun to find out.

            T: Do you think Sam will betray the others?

A: No, I think Kelley is just making you think that. In the end, I’m sure she’ll be a good guy. However, I think it would be awesome if she did. Gives the plot a great twist! ^_^

A: Do you think they’ll actually find someone soon or how long do you think Kelley will prolong it?

T: Easy question. About halfway through the book for them to find someone to help them. To find someone who wants to kill them, a lot sooner.

 

So, there you have it! This was so much fun, I can't wait to continue to read this book and do some more questions next week!

Review: Gone

This book starts slow. The first hundred pages are not great. At times not good. But it does pick up, and ends up being a pretty good book.

 

 

The coyotes, startled by the light, fell back. Their eyes glittered. Their teeth were faint white grins. And then they came for her. A jawlike vise closed arund the muscle of her calf and she fell in a heap.The coyotes swarmed over her. Their stink was in her nose, their weight hammered her down.

 

 

The books long and is the start of a series, so I did expect it to start a little slow. But, in truth, the beginning kind of dragged on. I just kept saying get to the good parts. And it eventually did get there. And when it got there, it was enjoyable and entertaining.

 

 

Most of the characters aren't anything special. Sam is just a regular teen who people think can save them. Astrid is smart but not the genius everyone thinks she is. Caine and Drake are extremely messed up in the head. And Diana didn't seem to have much of a purpose. Though her, Jack, Albert, and Mary all seem like they could be very important in the next books.

 

 

The plot is really what kept me hooked.  Once it got going it flowed well, and the action never completely stopped rolling. It set up well for the next book. The romance between Sam and Astrid was a little much. They were in love a few days after the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone) began. And I'm sure the "Darkness" will make more sense in he next books, but it doesn't really fit in this book.

 

 

This book is far from perfect, but it's entertaining, enjoyable, and a fun read. I will read the next book. And I completely recommend this book. I think a lot of people will like it as long as they can stand to read a hundred pages of boring. Because it does get better.

Top Ten Most Anticipated Books For 2013

However, I've got 12 books right now that I am just dying to have, haha! ^_^

TheRules (Project Paper Doll #1) by Stacey Kade- Omg, I just adore and have a special shelf in my heart for this author. Her debut series into the YA world, The Ghost & The Goth, has left a foot print in my soul and I just can not wait to read her new YA series! *squeal* haha 

Throughthe Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) by Veronica Rossi- The first book was soooo refreshing. I mean, it was like no other dystopians out there that I have read. *squeal* It was breath taking and sitting on your edge, however I was soooo thankfully there was now cliff hangers from the first. But I'm dying for this authors story telling and for these amazing characters! Yee!  

Etiquette& Espionage (Finishing School #1) by Gail Carriger- I have adored Ally Carters spy books and what not, so being a book out there with that them but in an era that women are supposed to have pose, I can't freaking wait. And that cover for Ms. Carriger book, it's just sooo freaking gorgeous, it just adds onto the anticipation. 

The Program (Program #1) by Suzanne Young- This one sounds interesting and I really want to see how this one will go, since it's a tough subject in the first place.

Everbound (Everneath #2) by Brodi Ashton- This series was the first time I've ever read about the Persephone myth and it made me fall head over heels for it. The words flowed smoothly and the details and world Mrs. Ashton created, I just can't wait to fall back into!

 

Perfect Scoundrels (Heist Society #3) by Ally Carter- This series is just so much fun! The heist and the family feel from the team they've put together is just so amazing and you just get sucked in that I just can't wait to be lost in this world once more. ^_^

Impostor (Slide #2) by Jill Hathaway- Slide was interesting and I was hooked. Even though there wasn't much mystery I still very much enjoyed the book, so of course I'm going to continued this series!

Star Cursed (The Cahill Witch Chronicles #2) by Jessica Spotswood- I just couldn't get enough for Born Wicked, just wow! So, of course I'm excited for this one. For the magic, the sisters, the romance, and for everything else. And of course for Mrs. Spotswood's amazing story telling. ^_^ However, I really hope they change the cover for it. It's pretty, yes. But it it's the same charm as the first book.

Towering by Alex Flinn- I have enjoyed a few of Alex Flinn novels before and this plot sounds amazing. Plus, it's freaking Rapunzel! A re-telling of Rapunzel, I've been wondering, hoping, and looking for one since Tangled. Cause, hello, it was freaking adorable, haha! ^_^

Taken(Taken #1) by Erin Bowman- This one intrigues me. Boys are disappearing when they turn eighteen for no reason, hum. *taps chin* haha.

Splintered by A.G. Howard- That cover let alone causes me to go pick it up. I love finding re-tellings and this one of Alice sounds really good and I can't wait for it to come out!

Spirit(Elemental #3) by Brigid Kemmerer- I have just adored this series. All the books have grabbed me one way or another, and this one I'm excited for! Though, I'm afraid for who the main character is. However, he's slowly warming up to me, haha.

Review: The Scorch Trials

I loved The Maze Runner. It was one of my favorite books I've read this year. This one, not so much.


 Thomas imagined horrible things as they went along. His legs were weakening every second, and he knew he'd have to lower his body to the ground soon. He pictured the bleeding wounds, the permanent scars.


I'll start off with saying, this felt unnecessary. I wish that Dashner just rounded out the first book and left it there. The plot was really weak. And I'm pretty sure Dashner made some off it up as he went along. It was confusing, too. There was some many twists that it was hard to figure out. And, I don't think one question I had after the first one was even answered.


I read a few reviews saying I would hate Teresa. I didn't mind her. I understood her a bit and understood why she did what she did. Though I understand her, I didn't love her. There were three characters I loved: Newt, Jorge, and Minho. Minho was tough, funny, and a likable guy. Newt was once again the voice of reason and my favorite. Jorge is a new character that is somehow crazy and lovable at the same time.


The character I disliked the most was Thomas himself. In the Maze Runner, at times, he wasn't likable. And other then the beginnig, he was never likable in this one. He was way to emotional and at times acted like a baby. I get it. She betrayed him. But she did because WICKED told her to. And she appoligized and said she didn't expect him to forgive her or to even like her. I'm not saying he had to love her or to like her, but I wanted him stop acting like he wouldn't have done the samething to her or someone else if WICKED had told him to do it. He acted like he was some much better then her. I just really annoyed me.


I've kinda ranted and that's not going to stop right now. There was a love square. Not a triangle. A square. Thomas and the Gladers are trying to survie an apocalypic wasteland, so it's the perfect place to add a love square. One of the most annoying things about the whole book.


I might be kinda hard on the book. If it was a stand alone and had nothing to do with The Maze Runner, it probably would've been so bad. But it is a sequel to a book I really enjoyed. And it might be because they aren't in the maze anymore. So it kinda lost some of its charm. I know I had the same problem with the last book in the Hungry Games Trilogy.


The book is getting a 2.5. It's not horrible but it's not The Maze Runner. And the library has the Death Cure, so I probably will borrow it and finish out the series.
