~Summary~

 When destiny fails…

Singer-songwriter Lucy Moore thought her life was perfect. At just twenty-one, she’s already met her soul mate and together they’ve landed a recording contract. But when her father dies and the love of her life betrays her in more ways than one, she returns home to pick up the pieces. On the shores of Mendocino, California, Lucy has some decisions to make. Should she start a solo career? Or should she leave it all behind for some semblance of normalcy in the quiet town she grew up in? And what about Seth, the tortured artist who always seems to be there when she needs him?

Seth Keenan has demons of his own. Eighteen months ago, he was involved in a horrific accident that he never talks about. His career as an accomplished oil-paint artist has been abandoned, replaced by the buzz of his tattoo gun. And women—well, he never sticks around for longer than a few hours of pleasure… until he meets Lucy. After one evening of listening to her seductive voice, he’s pulled under. But what about the vow he made to never get close to anyone again?

In a world where everyone has one true soul mate, can these two find love in the arms of each other?

Seth
“Dude.” Derek leans over the bar and grabs a bottle of water from a bucket of ice. “Of all the nights to ask me to be the designated driver, you had to choose this one?” He twists the top and takes a long slug. He’s just come from work and is still wearing his blue firefighter T-shirt. He’ll have five girls begging him to take them home within forty-five minutes. Or less, if he starts buying them drinks. “How am I going to get through this without something to take the edge off?”
“Get through what?” I purposely ignore the way he’s looking at Jax. He’s had a slight obsession with her for as long as I can remember, yet he’s never made a move. And as far as I know, he never plans to.
He lifts his water bottle to the crowd. “A night of barely dressed hot chicks. Are you fucking blind?”
I might as well be, because right now, I don’t see anything except the girl strutting out onstage in her sex-bot boots, swaying her hips and seducing the crowd with her eyes before she even opens her mouth.
Jesus. She’s going to kill me. I’m going to combust right here in the bar just staring at her pouty lips. She picks up the microphone and smiles tentatively at Mike, waiting for his cue.
“Omigod!” Jax squeals and grabs my arm. “She’s actually going to go through with it.”
I glance down at her and smile at her huge grin. Jax hasn’t looked this happy in months. Not since before the big breakup. “You were worried she wouldn’t?”
She lets out an ironic huff of exasperation. “Are you kidding? I wasn’t even sure I’d get her to the bar, let alone near the stage.” Her pretty blue eyes meet mine and her smile fades. “Whatever happens, promise me you’ll be nice to her.”
“What the hell, Jax?” I pull away slightly and frown at her, offended she has such a low opinion of me. “What do you think I’m going to do? Mock her and throw beer bottles?”
She clutches my arm and pulls me back. “No. Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply anything. It’s just that this is a huge deal for her and I want it to go smoothly. She belongs up there. She’s not herself when she’s not singing.”
Onstage, the band starts to play, and the girl who’d wobbled her way backstage has transformed into a dazzling, confident crowd-pleaser. She’s standing with her feet shoulder-width apart, her head held high, a seductive smile on her face as she scans the room. Her eyes land on me and she grips the mic with both hands. Then she starts singing. I instantly recognize the song as a popular Mandy Taylor number my sister is always playing. But instead of Mandy’s pop sound, Lucy’s voice is huskier, and she sings it slower. Seductively. She’s fucking mesmerizing.
“Holy shit, dude.” Derek leans forward, eyeing Lucy as if he’s mentally calculating how fast he can rip her clothes off. “Who the hell is that?”
“Don’t even think about it, asshole,” I growl. Where did that come from?
“Awww.” Jax laughs. “You’re such a softy. Look at you, all protective of my friend.” She slips her arm around me and gives me a sideways hug.
“Yeah, softy,” Derek mimics and gives me that guy look that says he knows exactly what’s going on with me and it has nothing to do with being protective.
I glare at him, making sure he knows it doesn’t matter my motives. She’s off-limits to the likes of him.
“God,” Jax whispers. “Look at her.”
My gaze automatically shifts to the fiery pixie onstage.
“I didn’t think it was possible, but whoa. She’s even better than I remember.”
The entire club is riveted, watching her strut around the stage. Then the band pauses and Lucy freezes, the mic held close to her lips. Her eyes scan the crowd, and my breath gets caught in my throat when her gaze lands on me. Something foreign in my gut flips over as her lips turn up into a secret smile I swear is meant just for me.
Jesus, this girl knows what the hell she’s doing. She’s holding me in the palm of her hand, leaving me salivating for more. And though I’m sure I’m not the only one, I can’t tear my eyes away from her to confirm the effect she has on the room.
Her gaze never shifts and she starts singing in the sexiest voice possible, “When it’s just you and me in the dead of the night, I get reckless… reckless… reckless.

Publication Date: May 16th 2012
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal
Pages: 281
Format: Kindle

~Summary~

Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie. Together they’re doing a pretty good job of shrugging off the slings and arrows cast their way by the popular crowd when a new boy, Lucas, moves into the house next door. Suddenly Braedyn finds herself falling in love for the first time.

But as her sixteenth birthday approaches, Braedyn discovers humankind is at war with the Lilitu, an ancient race of enticing demons that prey on human souls. Her father is a member of the Guard fighting against the Lilitu - and so are the new neighbors, including her crush, Lucas.

As her world starts to unravel at the seams, Braedyn learns the right answers aren’t always clear or easy. And as for “good” and “evil” – it all depends on how we choose to act.

Inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring, Thrall explores first love, strong friendships, and taking on adult responsibilities against the backdrop of powerful supernatural forces and life-and-death stakes.

~My Thoughts~

I originally got this free from Amazon, the summary kept me intrigued so whenever I strolled through my kindle books I would always get drawn to it. However, since ebooks take a little bit longer for me to read, I would just side step it and go for a shorter one.
That was until the author sent a book request my way.
The final push I needed to pick up this read!
I absolutely loved the concept! Mrs. Quintenz wrote about a very unique creature, one you don’t see much in the young adult world as it’s a very sexually beast, and with that I think Mrs. Quintenz handled that aspect very, very well!
Though I enjoyed this tale, and I can’t wait to dive into Incubus, I do feel that in the end there was a lot of buildup and action scenes that when the next scene came all relaxed and calm, nothing much but characters everyday life, it made it feel (I don’t know) a little unbalanced. I know this is a need in books to keep the readers interested but it was so unexpected, so packed that the ups and downs were kind of tiring after a while (or I maybe was just too exhausted from school *shrugs*).
Overall I liked and found this a somewhat refreshing tale. It’s only somewhat as the romance is the same (insta-whatever) and I thought the guy only liked her for a certain reason (would have been an awesome twist!) but instead the author played it a different way, a way in which caused me to roll my eyes (and probably because I was never in love when I was fifthteen).

Thrall is an addicting read, full of surprises and refreshing creatures that it will have you flying through till the end and then craving for the sequel, Incubus.

*Though on request to review from the author that has in no way influenced my opinion on it one bit*

{Book Blitz} Mackenzie Duncan Series by Adrianne James

The Tempering

The Mythology department at prestigious Harvard University is tiny—and Mackenzie Duncan has just been selected as one of the lucky few. Her love for myths and legends is deep, but she never thought any of it could be real.
After being attacked by a large wolf while walking home alone, Mackenzie realizes something is not right. She heals quickly, has suddenly become super strong, and is experiencing mood swings that can't possibly be normal. The myths she's studying aren't myths at all. Werewolves are real, and she's one of them. Fear of what she is, and who she might hurt sends Mackenzie running from the life she’s worked hard to build–and straight into the arms of a handsome Were named Geoff and into the home of his pack. Living with her new pack takes the edge off her confusion and self-loathing, but the arrival of new pack members changes the dynamic, and tests Geoff and Mackenzie’s growing relationship.
The hardest part of being a werewolf is to have no control and no memory of her time as a bloodthirsty beast. When a moon cycle passes, and she is actually able to remember bits and pieces of the night, she starts to ask questions, and the more questions she asks, the more she realizes she doesn’t like the answers. Can she set aside her own sense of morals to belong to a pack that is like a family or will she leave everything behind yet again in search of a life she can be proud of?

The Enlightening

Mackenzie Duncan found out that pack life wasn’t for her. Now she is running for the second time in the six months since she was bitten and turned into a Werewolf. But this time, she isn’t alone. This time, she has Geoff and Liam with her, two very hot Werewolves vying for her heart.
But her companions aren't her focus. The only thing she can focus on is getting far from her old pack and their murderous ways. Only, she doesn’t just want to run. She wants to warn every pack she can that their lives are in danger too. No one should be turned against their will like she was and no other pack should have to surrender to the ideas of a centuries old, power hungry woman.
Not only does Mackenzie have to deal with her crazy ex-pack leader sending people out to kill her, she has to keep both men at arm’s length (and that proves to be much more difficult than she thought), but she finds out more about her own life and heritage than she ever thought imaginable.
And suddenly, everything makes sense...

~About The Author~

Growing up, Adrianne couldn’t get her hands on enough books to satisfy her need for the make believe. If she finished a novel and didn’t have a new one ready and waiting for her, she began to create her own tales of magic and wonder. Now, as an adult, books still make up majority of her free time, and now her tales get written down to be shared with the world.
During the day, Adrianne uses her camera to capture life’s stories for clients of all ages and at night, after her two children are tucked in bed; she devotes herself to her written work. Adrianne is living the life she always wanted, surrounded by art and beauty, the written word and a loving family.
As a young adult and new adult author, Adrianne James has plans to bring stories of growing characters, a little romance, and perhaps a little magic and mythology down the line for her readers to enjoy.

~Excerpt~

Not long after Alec joined us, we had our first run-in with a Demon—and that was when I decided having Alec around wasn’t such a bad thing. If he hadn’t been there, Johnathan and I would likely be dead. Or worse. The thought of being possessed by a Demon—having no control over my own actions, carrying out its devastating orders—that was one of the scariest things I could think of.
Demons were a mystery to me. I’d read that they were fallen angels. Malevolent spirits. They were definitely malevolent. Whatever they were, their main goal seemed to be to possess or just plain kill humans. From what I’d read in the white book, Demons weren’t supposed to be roaming around our realm, outside of the Netherworld. The reason there were some running around, it stated, was this: there were sorcerers and others who dabbled in the Dark Arts but few were strong enough to summon a Demon. Even fewer were strong enough to hold that Demon captive once summoned. Those people all thought they were strong enough, though. These dabblers in the Dark Arts would call up a Demon, thinking to force it to carry out some unsavory deed for them, and they’d end up being too weak to hold the thing inside their pentacle. Demons didn’t really like to be called up or summoned. Forced to adhere to another’s will. So, they broke out and killed whoever called them. And then they were free to roam in our realm until someone sent them back to the Netherworld. I know my dad believed in Demons, they’re even mentioned in the Bible, but he refused to talk about them, afraid just doing so would evoke one’s wrath or bring its evil upon us. Just the thought of them scared the crap out of me.
We sat in the lobby of an old hotel Underground. Johnathan and Alec were trying to convince me that Pentacles weren’t dark magic. Alec drew an almost perfect circle. As he added the five point star to the middle, its points touching the circle, he said, “Pentacles aren’t evil, Paige. They’re just a tool that can be used for either good or evil purposes. We’ll only be using them for good so relax and start practicing.”
I reluctantly picked up a piece of chalk and touched it to the ground. I blew out an anxious breath. “I can’t do it.”
Jonathan dropped his chalk to the ground and scooted over next to me. I forgot to breathe when he put his hand over mine and started drawing the symbol with my chalk. The warmth of his strong but tender hand made me forget all about thoughts of evil. All I could think about was how good his touch felt. And, as he leaned over, his leg touching mine, I breathed in his smell.
“There,” he said. He finished the pentacle but still rested his hand over mine. He raised his eyebrows and smiled a stunning half-smile. “Nothing bad happened. In fact, I’d say that felt pretty good.” He squeezed my hand.
I nodded and Alec rolled his eyes.
“Now, draw one of your own.” He slowly withdrew his hand from mine as he continued to hold my gaze.
I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks. I looked down and started drawing.
The circle drawn, I started on the star and then stopped and held the chalk up off the ground. “Shh. Be quiet for a second. I hear something.”
The boys held still. Alec cocked his head like a dog, listening.
London Bridge is falling down . . .” the British accent sang, louder as it drew closer.
A white ghost-shaped blob flew through our door. It stopped short when it saw us. The big nerd glasses it wore on its sheet-like face didn’t even budge in spite of the fact that it had no ears or nose to hold them in place.
I glanced up at the books it carried. Physics, Human Biology, and Psychology.
Valedictorian wannabee. The laugh that was forming in my throat at that thought was stopped short as a million tiny spiders of terror crept up my spine.
“There you are,” the Demon said with a slight British accent. “I knew I smelled something interesting.” The thing dropped its books and opened its mouth w-i-d-e. Johnathan dove out of the way just as its protruding jaws and rows of terrifying shark-like teeth clamped shut with a loud chomp right where his head had just been.

Once again she tries to look away, but I stop her by putting my hand under her chin and hold her in place, facing me. The air around us has changed. It’s like there’s a radiating heat around us, a tension that can’t be broken through. I am not sure what it is, why I feel it, or what it means. She softly responds to me with just a simple, “Okay.”
I am paralyzed in place. I can’t move. I am afraid if I do, I’ll spook her. She just said she’d trust me not to hurt her, to keep her safe. There has never been a more important moment in my life. I know that her simple ‘okay’ warmed my heart in a way it’s never been warmed before. I don’t know why my life has gone the way it has, but if this is where it brought me, I may be able to come to grips with it all.
She starts fidgeting and I realize I still have my hand on her chin. I can’t even tell you how long we’ve been frozen like this. I drop my hand and stand up. Holding my hand out to her, I say, “Come on. Let’s find something fun to do.” She doesn’t immediately take my hand, but she visibly relaxes.
After a short moment, she puts her hand in mine and allows me to help her up. She is wearing a huge smile and I know it mirrors mine. Her hand feels perfect in mine, but unfortunately, it doesn’t stay long. She drops it and asks, “What are we gonna do?” She is looking around, trying to figure out what I’ve got planned.
“Do you need to go home and check in first? I don’t want you in any trouble.” If she gets into trouble at home, I won’t be able to spend time with her. I know being around her makes me feel happier than I have in a long time. I want to spend as much time with her as I can so this feeling won’t go away.

~My Thoughts~

The main reason why I was drawn to this, because I don’t normally read f/f/m where the females in the end have the hots for each other, was because in my current work I’m writing the two main (female) characters having the hots for each other haha. So I was curious and wanted something that might help me out, even though my work isn’t as steamy as this one. ;)
Perfect for Valentine’s Day, I was drawn in with the little back story then hooked by the naughty candy game (one that seems like fun for me and my Marine haha). This short is truly just for your entertainment, nothing more, and it delivers! So if you love steamy reads then this is for you! And it’s free!!
Definitely interested in more of Mrs. Folsom’s works!

Mrs. Knight hooks you with the first words, painting a picture into Ryker’s life as a supernatural hunter. Pulling me in I didn’t want to put this short down! Ryker was loveable and whenever he thought of his love, you can’t help but swoon! One of my favorite things when reading a male point of view (we get both character views) is reading their feels towards the opposite sex, is seeing them become smitten, and their hearts pounding faster than normal when the one that’s capture their heart walks into the scene. Which is why I adored him, including the little battle he had warring within him and within his family.
This review is going to be short and sweet, which is exactly what this book was! Though yes, I felt some parts were a little cliché but when it comes to romance that’s exactly why we romance lovers keep coming back for more is because we love those clichés that bring the butterflies to our stomachs.
Overall, I enjoyed both the characters sides! The intense fear from Jenna was heart wrenching and the love Ryker had towards her even after he found out that she was something he hunted to kill was amazing! Mrs. Knight melded them perfectly and you couldn’t help but root for them! This little short was the perfect thing for me with its action, gripping storyline, and quite the steamy scene….it’s quite the perfect little short for Valentine’s Day, if I don't say so myself. ;)
Can't wait to see what else the author has in store for us fans!
