I’m Not Afraid of Wolves

(The Cotton Candy Quintet #4)
Publication date: September 22nd 2016
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult
Christine would do anything to get away from it all.
After escaping an abusive marriage and heading up a group of brand new performers, she’s tired and in need of a vacation. So when her sister Sara wants her to go camping out in the mountains of Georgia with the girls, she packs her bags for some rest and relaxation. Not even meeting a gorgeous park ranger like Colton Donnelly is going to distract her.
Except Sara didn’t tell her the real reason for the trip: she’s running away from a terrible secret. One that puts all of their lives in danger.
Now the vacation that Christine so desperately needed is ruined, but that’s the least of her worries. She has to use her wits and skills to save them all. Because she soon finds out that werewolves are very real. And they’ll stop at nothing to get their claws into her sister.
EXCERPT:
When the sliding door locked, I turned my gaze onto Sara and watched her, waiting for her to bring up her story. I wanted her to be the one who talked first, if only because I didn’t want to prod her too much if she was traumatized by whatever this was.
But if she was going to try to weasel her way out of talking to me, she had another thing coming.
“Wow,” she murmured softly. “Look at that full moon.”
I picked up a note of fear in her voice. “Yeah,” I said cautiously. “It’s beautiful.”
“I used to think so.” Sara turned around and looked back at me. Her eyes were wide with fright and the rigidity told me something else was going on with her.
Finally, my patience snapped.
“Sara, what’s wrong?”
“You won’t believe me,” she repeated, using the same phrase she used when we were putting food away.
I crossed my arms. “I think you’ll be surprised.”
Sara’s jaw worked. “I think I’m going to need more wine for this.”
I held up my glass. “Just drink mine.” Don’t think I’m letting you back in the kitchen that easily. She’d run away and hide and hoped I’d forget about it. She wanted to talk about it, but she was too afraid to.
She took my glass and downed the rest of it in one chug. I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
“Okay,” she said, as if warming herself up for our talk. “Okay.”
“It will be all right,” I told her.
“No, it won’t.” Tears started filling her eyes. “Christine, do you believe in werewolves?”

#Bae
Cambria Hebert
(Hashtag #8: Conclusion)
Publication date: September 16th 2016
Genres: New Adult College Romance
BEFORE ANYONE ELSE
The Hashtag Series #8
Happily-ever-after.
That’s what happens when you get married.
Right?
Turns out sparkly rings, cake and a fantastic wedding do not automatically grant you that, not even when it’s all you truly want.
I’m even starting to doubt the bottomless, unconditional love I share with the man I married will be enough.
I can’t have happily ever after, know why?
Because I can’t give Romeo what he truly wants. I’ve tried. So hard. I won’t be happy unless he is and something is missing. Someone.
Paparazzi are in my face. The flashing cameras and prying eyes are everywhere. My secret is getting harder to hide, and I know the second the scoop is dished the grip I have on the fraying rope of that happily ever after will snap right in my face.
In our face.
I can’t let that happen. No matter what.
Because with or without a happy ending, Romeo comes Before Anyone Else.

Book Review: The Selection (The Selection #1) by Kiera Cass

The Selection (The Selection #1) by Kiera Cass
Publication Date: April 24th, 2013
Genre: Young Adult Dystopian
Pages: 327
Format: Paperback
Source: Gifted
Read: August 18th to 22nd, 2016
Rating: 4/5

~Summary~

The first book in the captivating, #1 New York Times bestselling Selection series! Discover a breathless fairy-tale romance with swoon-worthy characters, glittering gowns, fierce intrigue, and a dystopian world that will captivate readers who loved Veronica Roth’s Divergent, Ally Condie’s Matched, and Lauren Oliver’sDelirium.

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape a rigid caste system, live in a palace, and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon. But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her, and competing for a crown she doesn’t want.

Then America meets Prince Maxon—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

When this first came out, I did borrow it from the library but after reading the first chapter I just couldn't get into it. I think because back then I was all over the Dystopia genre that I just rolled my eyes at yet another one. But always in the back of my mind I wanted to start this series, so I told my Mom I wanted the box set for Christmas as it was on sale at Target last year.

So here I am, almost a year later, finally getting to the book haha. Something not unusual for me in the least. I've been working my way out of a reading slump, picking up lighter reads and boy was this a light fun read! I was devouring it, I sooo was not expecting how easily I got sucked into the story! I was absolutely head over heels!

I think my favorite part of this book was the fact that America wasn't looking for love. I loved that she wasn't smitten with the Prince right away. Yes, it's because she just got her heart broken from the love of her life before she went to the Selection but I love the fact that she didn't bounce right into the romance with the Prince so soon afterwards. She was so real and upfront with the Prince and I loved that! I knew with their friendship she was going to get feelings for him eventually, it all felt so natural, it flowed so beautifully!

YOU GUYS, I was constantly swooning throughout this book! Swooning over Aspen, then broken because of him, then swooning over Maxon- now I don't know how I feel with how things ended on the last page. I think I'm #TeamMaxon haha. I also liked how for most of this book it wasn't about a love triangle, a breath of fresh air! This whole book was a breath of fresh air!! I'm so excited to pick up the next book!

Overall, other than the sort of unfinished ending and me expecting more crazy drama with 35 girls living under one roof and fighting for one guy (though the drama we got was perfect and natural) I was still expecting more. I really, really enjoyed this book! I was head over heels, never wanted to put it down! And when I did, I couldn't wait to pick it back up and escape reality between it's pages!

Book Review: The Vampire's Mail Order Bride (Nocturne Falls #1) by Kristen Painter

The Vampire's Mail Order Bride (Nocturne Falls #1) by Kristen Painter
Publication Date: June 1st, 2015
Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance
Pages: 370
Format: Paperback
Source: Gifted
Read: August 12th to 17th, 2016
Rating: 4/5

~Summary~

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it's all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

After seeing her maybe-mobster boss murder a guy, Delaney James assumes a new identity and pretends to be a mail order bride. She finds her groom-to-be living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day. Weird. But not as weird as what she doesn’t know. Her groom-to-be is a 400-year-old vampire.

Hugh Ellingham has only agreed to the arranged set up to make his overbearing grandmother happy. In thirty days, whatever bridezilla shows up at his door will be escorted right back out. His past means love is no longer an option. Not if the woman’s going to have a future. Except he never counted on Delaney and falling in love for real.

Too bad both of them are keeping some mighty big secrets...

In a matter of seconds, this book consumed me and wrapped me snugly between it's pages! The Vampire's Mail Order Bride was a light, fast-paced read with a dash of paranormal- exactly what the doctor ordered! I just got swept away in the story, devouring it and I didn't want it to end!

This was also an absolute emotional roller coaster ride, especially when Hugh was fighting his feelings for her. Every time he took three steps back after taking a step forward, I was like "Why, Hugh, why?! Don't do this!" Even though the romance was fast, I actually didn't mind it like I usually do. I think it's cause I was craving for it, craving to read cause it's been a while since a book took me hostage, that it actually made me fall head over heels for these two! This book was absolutely swoon worth and I wish it didn't have to end!

Overall I was reading this faster than any book I've read lately, all I wanted to do was spend my day within the pages! I was literally reading 100+ pages a day and that's very rare for me! That's how consumed I was with this story! I just couldn't get enough and when I had to put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about the next time I was going to pick it back up! I will be buying more from Kristen Painter, already have the second book in the Nocturne Falls series in my cart, I'm just waiting for my first paycheck to come in!
