Faeries are real. So are vampires and angels.

They all want Marion dead.

Lucas claims that Marion is a half-witch, half-angel mage with terrifying powers that could crack the world. But Marion can’t remember how to cast magic any more than she can remember where she comes from.

This series is urban fantasy romance unfolding over multiple books with an eventual happily ever after. It features some violence, mature language, and sexual references.

~My Thoughts~

If only I finished this before hubby and I went on our vacation then I probably would have given this a four. But since I didn't my reading time disappeared and when I was able to finally relax enough to pick it up again something came along, distracting me. So as time went by I started to lose my interest and just wanted to finish the damn book haha. I hate when that feeling comes especially with a book I was enjoying.

Yes, this can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read some of Mrs. Reine's previous works first that way you can connect better to some of the characters. I haven't read all of her previous books because she writes so dang fast (I wish I knew her secret) that I just can't keep up but I have read enough to spot characters from her other works and then things click into place for me, creating a better enjoyment in me.

Like all her other works, Cast in Angelfire is packed with magical action scenes that keep you on your toes! I was devouring this, didn't want to put it down! And once pieces of the puzzle fell into place and I realized who the main guy was, my interest became even more piqued!

Though sometimes I couldn't stand Marion and her high and mighty attitude, I still wanted to see her safe. I'm hoping in the next book I'll see a change in her, especially after everything that's gone down but my hopes aren't high haha. And I also didn't like how naive and willing she was to listen to what everyone was telling her. In the beginning she was suspicious of everyone but the moment this cute guy says he's her boyfriend, her suspicion flies out the window when this moment she should have been suspicious. But I'm glad she even realized how naive she's been.

Overall I really enjoyed reading the latest story Mrs. Reine has written for us, I'm really amazed by how she twists these tales so that they all connect in some way and be apart of this urban fantasy world she's created! I'm truly amazed and I can't wait to continue this series! I'm excited to see where things lead to, this was a great starter for this latest series of hers. If you've enjoyed any other books by Mrs. Reine then you'll definitely enjoy this one!

~EXCERPT~

When she reached the water’s edge, she fell to her knees, eager to quench her thirst. Before the water touched her lips, a warning of danger stopped her. The hairs on the back of her neck rose. She glanced around.
She heard him before she saw him, his words sailing over the rapidly moving stream.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
Startled, she glared, trying to make out his form. When her eyes finally found him, she stared, open-mouthed. Awed. Amazed.
Her first human encounter.
He’s . . . handsome I guess. Then quickly reprimanded herself for such triviality.
Setting her mouth in a firm line, she asked, “Why not? I’m thirsty.” The words came out whinier than she’d intended. Years of combat training taught her to be on alert. But she hadn’t been prepared to run into a human so suddenly. Questions about the dark-haired boy bombarded her.
Her dehydration encouraged her to set them aside. She needed a drink, now or she worried she’d faint. Still keeping her eyes fixed on the boy, she bent at the waist, ready to plunge her mouth into the water.
The boy spoke again.
“Come here, you can have some of mine.” His voice reminded Venus of soft velvet, though the words came out slurred. One leg shook, like he’d been filled with writhing ants, the back of his thigh pounded against the thick, rotted tree stump he’d folded himself on.
Everything about him screamed dark and handsome, except his skin, which resembled hers. He appeared to be brooding, eyebrows scrunched, faraway look in his eyes. Plus, he reeked of angry attitude.
From where Venus stood, his eyes looked black with dark lashes and eyebrows. There was a scar, which ran straight as an arrow, from the tip of his nose to his left cheekbone. His clothes were all dark. A long-sleeved black shirt over a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans, at least that’s what she thought his trousers were called, and black lace up boots. Had a storm cloud come along, he probably would’ve been invisible to her eyes.
“What’s wrong with this water?” she yelled, though she’d already stood and started across.
“It isn’t clean. You could get sick.” His mouthed twitched, like he barely contained a smirk or a snide comment. “Nice boots, but where are your clothes? Not that I mind.” He leaned forward, resting his forearms and elbows on his thighs and watched her cross.
The icy water splashed against her legs. It reminded her that all she wore were her boots and unisa. She’d spent time with Zaren in nothing more . . . in fact less, because she didn’t like to wear shoes, and never experienced a need to cover up. Looking down, she realized how much of her body was exposed. A blush tried to creep across her cheeks, but she ground her teeth, shaking it off.
“Uh, I lost them. Are you sure you don’t mind if I have a drink?” She inclined her head toward the thermos next to him. Her throat became more parched, if that were possible. She resisted running over, chugging it.
“No, go ahead.” He picked up the red thermos, unscrewed the lid and held it out.
Venus rushed over. After a swallow, she realized it wasn’t water. The liquid burned all the way down. She gasped, dropping the thermos. Grabbing her throat, she watched the honey brown liquid spill onto the rocky dirt.
Her throat constricted, but she choked out, “That isn’t water.”
He chuckled, wicked. “It’ll warm you up. Soothe your insides.”
Gagging, she fell to her knees at the water’s edge, stuck her mouth in the stream and drank. With relief, her thirst started to subside. After several mouthfuls, she stood and turned. Water had soaked the ends of her waist-length hair as had some mud. When the frosty ends touched her skin, she jumped and swore. He snorted at her noticeable discomfort. His face revealed a look she’d seen before, on male kelarians, especially after they’d had too much of what humans called alcohol.
“I’d be happy to help warm you up, too.” As he spoke, he stood.
“You can take your foul thoughts and go straight to your—”
“Hey, I’m trying to be chivalrous.” And before Venus realized the tainted plan he’d devised, he grabbed her by the shoulders and kissed her.
Until that moment, Venus hadn’t considered what her first kiss would feel like, but she knew this wasn’t right. Hard, full of anger. He pressed her lips open and she tasted the alcohol on his tongue, sickly sweet. His arms locked around her, crushing her body to his. She sensed a pleading in his embrace, a longing for an unfulfilled wish.
“Release her. Now,” Zaren yelled.
The human pushed Venus away, wiping his mouth.
“Come on, Venus,” Zaren grabbed her hand, pulling her from the foul boy.
She watched stunned, as the brooding human smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
“Venus. Funny,” he said, his words full of venom, like her name had been laced with poison.
She pulled her hand from Zaren’s. Anger ripped through her along with a gripping sadness at the loss of her family and her irrihunter. That this boy had the audacity to find humor in her name, at her, Princess Venus, daughter of King and Queen Carania, rulers of Alayeah, the biggest kingdoms in all of Kelari, was unacceptable. How dare he? She wouldn’t have it. Her heart ached and her body hurt, but she ignored the pain. Head held high, she marched over and slapped his face. Hard.
“Don’t ever touch me again.” She gave him a defiant stare, daring him to try.
“Well, Venus, you’ve no reason to worry. Your name alone will keep me as far from you as possible. The Goddess of Love, how ironic.” He chuckled without humor and turned. Head in his hands he sunk onto the dead stump.
At the sight of him in such a condition, her anger abated, replaced by an unbidden grief. She pushed the bizarre feelings away with vehemence. Surprised she felt anything but furious at him, she made her way to Zaren.
When they were a small distance away, Venus said, “What an annoying human. If I never see him again, it’ll be too soon.”
Zaren cleared his throat and walked ahead.
“What?” Venus asked, catching up and grabbing his arm.
“That annoying human is Michael, the boy you’re required to help.” He took a step forward, but stopped. “Humans and love,” he grumbled and stomped ahead.
Venus stopped and looked back, profoundly shocked. “But—”
He sighed. “Clothes, first.”

~Summary~

I’m at a standstill.

If I push forward, I could destroy everything that Jack and I have built together. If I pull back, I could be left forever wondering what if.

I’m torn between Jack and Elle, the man I love and my friend who wants to become my lover.

I’m curious. It would be a lie to say I wasn’t.
He says no. My body says yes.

Could I risk it? Risk hurting and possibly losing him.

Just you watch.

~My Thoughts~

I'm sad to see this series end! Though the romance was completely cheesy and an insta-love type, sometimes it was sweet and I couldn't help devour it! And the super, steamy love scenes sure did help keep my eyes glued to my kindles screen!

Oh boy, another hot read from Ms. James! Truly panting melting material! I just couldn't get enough! And I'm excited to hear she's working on a full length novel, oh it's going to be good! I can already tell!

Overall Ms. James has become one of my favorite erotic authors! She sure knows how to get you in the mood with her sensual scenes!

Drew

I was no quitter.
I refused to quit Trent.
So angry. I was so goddamned angry.
He was pushing me away when all I wanted to do was pull him close. It was almost laughable he tried to break up with me. I felt the laughter bubbling up inside me, ready to explode. It was like I was so incredibly infuriated I couldn’t yell, I couldn’t cry, I couldn’t even speak.
But I wanted to laugh. The kind of laugh only villains in movies did. The kind that bespoke of internal madness.
That’s what tonight was. Madness.
He was jumped. Beaten. He told me he loved me. Then he laid out intent to withhold that love.
Trent was trying to protect me, in his mind he wasn’t keeping the love he felt from me, rather showing it in the best way he knew how. I respected that. I did.
But I wouldn’t have it.
We’d gotten one week together, I wanted more.
I suppose thinking we could keep our relationship a secret was naive. Merely wishful thinking. When you loved someone the way we loved each other it was impossible to hide. It showed in every way.
Not just in the way we looked at each other. Or the way we spent every spare moment together. It showed in ways I never wanted to see until now. Ways I thought no one else would notice.
I’d been fooling myself.
It was the way he put ketchup on his plate so I could eat his fries. The way I automatically pulled the tomatoes off my burgers and slid them on to his plate. It was the fact I went to him first whenever something happened I wanted to share. And the way we made each other’s coffee, exactly as we drank it.
Love is in the details. It is in the every day. It is the way you treat someone when they aren’t even looking and the way they fill your head when you’re apart.
Of course people were going to see it. Joey saw it almost from day one. Braeden and Ivy already knew. The reporter from GearShark knew from just one conversation…
Hiding our relationship was almost not an option.
Dissolving it wasn’t either.
My hand throbbed and my knuckles were slick with blood when I slammed out of the room. I was so intensely frustrated I couldn’t look at him another minute.
We weren’t over. No way in hell.
But I needed a minute.
My mind was so clouded with anger I didn’t see him. I didn’t notice him at all until he cleared his throat. My body jerked to a stop and my head whipped around to see Romeo leaning against the wall, like he was resolved to be there a while.
I’m sure he heard everything.
Me and Trent had been yelling. And the sound of my hand going through the wall hadn’t exactly been silent.
“Guess I don’t need to ask how he is.” Romeo said, straightening off the wall.
“You agree with him?” I challenged, my hand flexed. It was already fucked up from going through a wall, but I’d use it again if I had to.
“I understand why he thinks he’s doing what’s right.”
At first his words didn’t sink in. They just pissed me off even more. All I heard was Romeo understood Trent. I growled low and stepped forward in an aggressive movement.
Romeo’s every narrowed, watching me close but other than that his body language didn’t change.
That’s when I realized he was no threat to me. That’s when I realized he was on my side.
“We’re in a relationship.” I said, point blank. I kind of wanted to shock him. I wanted someone other than me to feel the sting of words tonight.
I also wanted a fight.
Just not with Trent.
Never with Trent.
“I know.”
The amusement in his tone took a little heat out of my oven.
“You can’t keep secrets like that from family. Family who really loves you.”
I tilted my head to the side and regarded him. Was he saying he knew before he walked into this house a little bit ago?
Was he saying he didn’t care?
“You should probably get that hand cleaned up. You’re bleeding on the floor.”
I glanced down at the blood dripping off my knuckles.
“I’ll talk to Trent.” He went on. Romeo stepped off the wall and toward the bedroom door. I moved fast, silently snatching his arm and turning him around. He didn’t pull away or act like my roughness was a threat, but his muscles tensed beneath my arm and I felt tension coil in his limbs.
“He cares what you think.” I said low. “Your opinion matters. So if you aren’t sure how you feel about our relationship or the fact there are two gay guys in your family walk away, walk away right now.”
Romeo stared at me level, his blue eyes bouncing between mine.
“He’s already fucked up enough right now. If you can’t offer him the brother he needs tonight I won’t let you in that room.”
Romeo smiled. His lips curved up into a knowing, almost pleased expression. “He pissed you off so bad you put your hand through a wall and he’s pushing you away, but yet here you are, standing guard at the door protecting him.”
“That wasn’t an answer,” I growled.
Romeo laughed beneath his breath. And then he answered.
Not with words.
In seconds his arm was out of my grasp and he was hugging me. I hesitated, shocked that he would just reach out and hug me like this.
“Family takes care of family.” his voice was low. “I’m not sure if there is anything that could make me turn my back on family, but if there is, it isn’t this.”
When he pulled back I looked him in the eye.
He meant it.
“Congratulations on finding a love worth fighting for.”
