Top Ten Tuesday (4)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks Top Ten topic is:

Top Ten Most Anticipated Books For 2013

However, I've got 12 books right now that I am just dying to have, haha! ^_^

TheRules (Project Paper Doll #1) by Stacey Kade- Omg, I just adore and have a special shelf in my heart for this author. Her debut series into the YA world, The Ghost & The Goth, has left a foot print in my soul and I just can not wait to read her new YA series! *squeal* haha

Throughthe Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2) by Veronica Rossi- The first book was soooo refreshing. I mean, it was like no other dystopians out there that I have read. *squeal* It was breath taking and sitting on your edge, however I was soooo thankfully there was now cliff hangers from the first. But I'm dying for this authors story telling and for these amazing characters! Yee!

Etiquette& Espionage (Finishing School #1) by Gail Carriger- I have adored Ally Carters spy books and what not, so being a book out there with that them but in an era that women are supposed to have pose, I can't freaking wait. And that cover for Ms. Carriger book, it's just sooo freaking gorgeous, it just adds onto the anticipation.

The Program (Program #1) by Suzanne Young- This one sounds interesting and I really want to see how this one will go, since it's a tough subject in the first place.

Everbound (Everneath #2) by Brodi Ashton- This series was the first time I've ever read about the Persephone myth and it made me fall head over heels for it. The words flowed smoothly and the details and world Mrs. Ashton created, I just can't wait to fall back into!

Perfect Scoundrels (Heist Society #3) by Ally Carter- This series is just so much fun! The heist and the family feel from the team they've put together is just so amazing and you just get sucked in that I just can't wait to be lost in this world once more. ^_^
Impostor (Slide #2) by Jill Hathaway- Slide was interesting and I was hooked. Even though there wasn't much mystery I still very much enjoyed the book, so of course I'm going to continued this series!
Star Cursed (The Cahill Witch Chronicles #2) by Jessica Spotswood- I just couldn't get enough for Born Wicked, just wow! So, of course I'm excited for this one. For the magic, the sisters, the romance, and for everything else. And of course for Mrs. Spotswood's amazing story telling. ^_^ However, I really hope they change the cover for it. It's pretty, yes. But it it's the same charm as the first book.
Towering by Alex Flinn- I have enjoyed a few of Alex Flinn novels before and this plot sounds amazing. Plus, it's freaking Rapunzel! A re-telling of Rapunzel, I've been wondering, hoping, and looking for one since Tangled. Cause, hello, it was freaking adorable, haha! ^_^
Taken(Taken #1) by Erin Bowman- This one intrigues me. Boys are disappearing when they turn eighteen for no reason, hum. *taps chin* haha.
Splintered by A.G. Howard- That cover let alone causes me to go pick it up. I love finding re-tellings and this one of Alice sounds really good and I can't wait for it to come out!
Spirit(Elemental #3) by Brigid Kemmerer- I have just adored this series. All the books have grabbed me one way or another, and this one I'm excited for! Though, I'm afraid for who the main character is. However, he's slowly warming up to me, haha.

So, there you go readers. I hope you found something new hear! And I just can't wait to dive into all of these, yee! haha.

What books are you anticipating? I would love to know!

Happy Reading Everybody!

Review: The Scorch Trials

The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner #2) by James Dashner
Publication Date:  October 12, 2010
Genre: YA Dystopian
Pages: 360

Summary

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.

In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety . . . until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.

Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, the earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated—and with it, order—and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim . . . and meal.

The Gladers are far from finished with running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.

Thomas can only wonder—does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

I loved The Maze Runner. It was one of my favorite books I've read this year. This one, not so much.

Thomas imagined horrible things as they went along. His legs were weakening every second, and he knew he'd have to lower his body to the ground soon. He pictured the bleeding wounds, the permanent scars.

I'll start off with saying, this felt unnecessary. I wish that Dashner just rounded out the first book and left it there. The plot was really weak. And I'm pretty sure Dashner made some off it up as he went along. It was confusing, too. There was some many twists that it was hard to figure out. And, I don't think one question I had after the first one was even answered.

I read a few reviews saying I would hate Teresa. I didn't mind her. I understood her a bit and understood why she did what she did. Though I understand her, I didn't love her. There were three characters I loved: Newt, Jorge, and Minho. Minho was tough, funny, and a likable guy. Newt was once again the voice of reason and my favorite. Jorge is a new character that is somehow crazy and lovable at the same time.

The character I disliked the most was Thomas himself. In the Maze Runner, at times, he wasn't likable. And other then the beginnig, he was never likable in this one. He was way to emotional and at times acted like a baby. I get it. She betrayed him. But she did because WICKED told her to. And she appoligized and said she didn't expect him to forgive her or to even like her. I'm not saying he had to love her or to like her, but I wanted him stop acting like he wouldn't have done the samething to her or someone else if WICKED had told him to do it. He acted like he was some much better then her. I just really annoyed me.

I've kinda ranted and that's not going to stop right now. There was a love square. Not a triangle. A square. Thomas and the Gladers are trying to survie an apocalypic wasteland, so it's the perfect place to add a love square. One of the most annoying things about the whole book.

I might be kinda hard on the book. If it was a stand alone and had nothing to do with The Maze Runner, it probably would've been so bad. But it is a sequel to a book I really enjoyed. And it might be because they aren't in the maze anymore. So it kinda lost some of its charm. I know I had the same problem with the last book in the Hungry Games Trilogy.

The book is getting a 2.5. It's not horrible but it's not The Maze Runner. And the library has the Death Cure, so I probably will borrow it and finish out the series.

.5

She noticed that Tara didn't try to exit the car, which was an interesting choice. "You aren't running away," Pearl said.

"Duh, it's raining outside," Tara said.

Haha, here goes Pearl with her witty self again (first scene). I adore her, she is one amazing character, and these scenes were just so fun to read. These quotes just cracked me up haha! ^_^

Thomas couldn't handle the look in her eyes; he let his gaze drop to the floor. "Don't gine up yet. We'll make it to the safe haven, get the cure."
"False hope," she said. "Guess that's better than no hope at all."

Review: Don't Expect Magic

Don't Expect Magic by Kathy McCullough
Publication Date: November 8th 2011
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 247

Summary

Delaney Collins doesn't believe in fairy tales. And why should she? Her mom is dead, her best friend is across the country, and she's stuck in California with "Dr. Hank," her famous life-coach father—a man she barely knows. Happily ever after? Yeah, right.

Then Dr. Hank tells her an outrageous secret: he's a fairy godmother—an f.g.—and he can prove it. And by the way? The f.g. gene is hereditary. Meaning there's a good chance that New Jersey tough girl Delaney is someone's fairy godmother.

But what happens when a fairy godmother needs a wish of her own?

A book that totally surprised me….

….and maybe not always for the better. This book, humph, was okay. Getting from this summary I thought this was going to be a full on romantic, charming, and magical read. I mean, with fairy godmothers in the play, why shouldn’t it be all those things with a hopeful sweet high school romance on top. Right? Well, wrong.

Instead this book came off more as a guide on how to form a bond with your estrange daughter that just so happens to have the family trait. Delaney (love that name) moves in with her famous life coach of a father in this so fool cheerful town that reminded me a lot of times of the TV show Suburgatory. Delaney was most definitely the odd girl out as apparently a lot of town folks are cheerfully wearing bright pastel colors. She dressed more on the dark side and I adored that she just so happen to make and design her own boots, with wheels! How freaking rocking!! That’s the first time I’ve read a young adult character that has that type of hobby, it was….refreshing.

Anyways, the writing was easy to follow and I could have read it in a day (I miss those days, haha). However, I just couldn’t really connect. Don’t Expect Magic totally had its charming, magical moments. My favorite was the café scene, I freaking adored that moment! ^_^ It was Delaney’s somewhat shining moment on trying to get her client, with the supposedly gal he likes, to finally talk.

But there were things I wasn’t a big fan with. Like the romance, Delaney finally figured she liked her client, in the last few chapters. She finally found out she liked him, like, ¾’s within the book. Now, I’m not asking for instant love here but I would have liked to be able to connect more with her feelings for her client, that’s all. You know, get what the summary was offering. Which is why this book was just, humph….okay.

Though I did enjoy how she was a match maker for her dad, how quickly she found out about her family secret and how not so easily she took it. I mean, in most paranormal otherworldly books, the main characters just right up front believes what they are told. Instead, Delaney’s brain tries to logic it out, which I loved! It was a nice change, you know.

Overall, this was an okay book. I was hooked yes, but I felt like it was missing something. Or at least, I was expecting something and I got something completely else, which is probably why it’s really just an okay book for me. I will probably pick up the second book and thankfully there is no cliffhanger at the end of this one. I was very happy with how Don’t Expect Magic ended.

I liked it. It was okay. Pick up if you want but I forewarned you, haha.

Enjoy

Review: Wither

Whither (The Chemical Garden #1) by Lauren DeStefano
Publication Date: March 22nd 2011
Genre: YA Dystopian
Pages: 358

Summary

By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.

When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out?

Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?

This was eerily beautiful….

…and I can’t wait for the next one. I wasn’t so sure about this book at first because of the mix reviews I’ve read from blogs I follow. However, overtime this plot was starting to win me over and the cover enchanted me. So, when I saw it at the library I just grabbed it and sure I almost hit my boyfriend, while I excitedly brought it away from the shelf, haha.
This book sucked me in from the first page. I was sitting in my boyfriend’s truck, waiting out the time while he was at the marine center and I couldn’t put this book down. Out of both my library books I got, I just couldn’t stop thinking and wanting to read this one over the other.
Anyways, we start off with Rhine, the main, being stuck in a van with many other girls. She was caught by the Gatherers and was now being chosen to become a bride. So, from the beginning, you get this creepy chill through your bones and it’s there pretty much throughout the book. And I loved that!
I really enjoyed Rhine, enjoyed the little flashbacks of her and her brother, enjoyed how she actually bonded with her other sister wives, loved them too. Including the first wife that they were replacing. Even enjoyed the connection she had with Gabriel, loved it wasn’t insta love, no. Their fond for each other grew like any relationship should grow.
This world was unnervingly fun. The father in law was creepy to the T and was a bad guy written perfectly. Her husband was charming and he truly loved, too bad he doesn’t know what’s going on behind the curtains his father has put up for him, he doesn’t really know what life is.
Overall, this was written smoothly, causing me to not want to put the book down. There are twist and unexpected turns, the world outside the mansion was beautiful and breathtaking. The world inside the mansion and underneath was suspenseful and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next as I kept turning the pages.
If you have your doubts on this one, then do what I did, which was checked it out. But trust me, once you start reading, the book will not let you go….just like Housemaster Vaughn.

Most definitely recommend! Why haven't you picked it up yet!

Happy Reading Everybody!

You want to know about true love? my father the geneticist said to my brother and me as we watched them dance. I'll tell you something about true love. There's no sciene to it. It's natural as the sky.

Love is natural. Even the human race can't claim to be natural anymore. We are fake, dying things. How fitting that I would end up in this sham of a marriage.

PRunning away from her was the hardest thing he'd ever done, he had no doubt about it. Showing up in the Glade with his memories wiped, adapting to life there, being trapped in the Maze, fighting Grievers, watching Chuck die - none of it matched what he felt now.

Review: Bewitching The Werewolf

Bewitching The Werewolf by Caroline Hanson
Publication Date: September 25th 2011
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 62

Summary

When witch for hire, Megan Stephens, is assigned to help the local werewolf pack leader find a mate, she thinks the job will be easy. Get in, get it up and get gone. But when she meets Zack Connor, she realizes her future might have a lot more dog jokes in it than she ever imagined.

This is a bewitching short story!

One morning my lower back was killing me to the point that I didn't want to leave my bed, thanks to that time of the month (sorry male viewers, haha). But I was dying to read something! However since I couldn't get to my books I popped open my kindle app on my phone, hoping to find something. Anything that would be a fast, quick read for me and that's when I decided to click on this enchanting story.

And what an enchanting story it was! I couldn't put it down or shut it close. It's fast action, going straight to the point of the story, Megan a witch, going onto a job she wasn't so keen on doing in the first place.

Megan and Zach from the begining have this....spark. Chemistry and it's pretty simple to see how this thing is going to end. But it's the journey that makes this story fun. Makes this story hard to think of anything else. Reading it in one sitting, I'm sure you too will be taken by this short.

However, even though I enjoyed it so, I felt it ended too soonly. Them commencing their love for one other seemed too fast. Meaning, I wanted more haha ^_^

For the love of witchy and all things furry then this is a must read. Plus, it's short and free, so whats it going to hurt haha! ^_^

Happy Reading Everybody!
