~Summary~

What if you could become the girl he left you for?

After her boyfriend dumps her, perfectionist and overachiever Jacqueline White obsessively compares herself to his new girlfriend, the sloppy and irresponsible Becka.

But when she wakes up in Becka's body to find they have switched places, she has a choice to make—should she take this opportunity to destroy her opponent's life from the inside-out? Or should she instead find a way to keep this new body, and her old boyfriend, for herself?

Find out in this dark homage to Freaky Friday.

~My Thoughts~

That ending, MIND BLOWN!! It both makes me feel sorry for our main girl, Jacqueline, and make me think she really is crazy. For Jacqueline everything has to be perfect. The way she looks, her bedroom has to be squeaky clean, and her grades have to all be A's. Because of this, it's turned her into a attention hog and causes not everyone to like her- including her boyfriend.

Because everything has to be perfect this makes me feel like she's crazy and when her ex-boyfriend is throwing a party on her birthday, she goes there assuming it was for her. Only a crazy person would think that. But yeah, I get they were best friends before they dated then broke up, but when your ex is with someone else now and isn't much of a friend anymore- I don't get how you would assume he would throw a party for you? Crazy!

And then what she does after she lands mysteriously in Becka's body, oh my gosh! It's so dark and twisted, I love it! Jacqueline is absolutely jealous of Becka and doesn't understand why her ex, Todd, would want to be with someone that's just so messy and not perfect like her. Because of this Jacqueline tries to get Becka into major trouble while trying to scare off Todd but when it doesn't work, she does the absolutely unthinkable. My jaw dropped and I just couldn't believe she did what she did!

Honestly going into Uninvited I didn't know what I was expecting except it would be twisted and suspenseful and Mr. Richey was able to deliver that perfectly! I hope he'll get back to this series soon because I'm just dying to see what happens next for Jacqueline! Seriously, you won't know what to do after that ending!

Publication Date: January 13th, 2012

~Summary~

On the day her father is buried, Cinderella’s stepmother forces her to wait upon her ugly stepsisters as they prepare for a frivolous ball. Poor Cinderella is literally worked to death by her in-laws, and left to die alone in the cinders. But thanks to an infection from a mysterious old woman, Cinderella is granted a chance for revenge. Soon, it will be midnight, and everyone will be washing floors – with blood.

~My Thoughts~

I originally read this back in August of 2012 and I never got to reviewing it for some reason but I did write this "Omfg, this was so good and I just love this guy! :D review to come" haha. Well, here's the review finally, almost three years later.

The Stepmother had it coming and I can't wait to see what Cinderella does to her stepsisters in the sequel, Zombie Cinderella II: The Ball! This was such an enjoyable reread for me, I totally forgot how truly cruel the stepmother and stepsisters were! I loved the twist on the "fairy godmother" Mr. Richey did! I also love how long it takes for the zombie virus to take effect, it isn't the fast type of zombies you see in movies, which makes the read that much more enjoyable as we watch her change!

Overall this was a wonderful bloody twist on Cinderella! It's unbelievable that you can live with your intestines out of your body but you can, which makes this read even more creepy! Kevin Richey does it again and I'm dying to read the sequel!

Genre: Young Adult Contemporary Mystery

~Summary~

From the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling series Pretty Little Liars comes a thrilling new novel about five perfect girls who are framed for a murder they didn’t commit.

In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them. They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke...until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.

From Sara Shepard, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, comes another story of dark secrets, shocking twists, and what happens when five beautiful girls will do anything to hide the ugly truth.

~My Thoughts~

In all honesty I couldn't help BUT compare this to Pretty Little Liars. I mean, there's five girls and they all have secrets. One of their secrets is wrapped around the most popular guy in school, who is also the number one bully. Also, they go to a very prestige school so god forbid they have flaws. There's a character name, Ashley (I know some girls give this name a bad rep but come on haha) who seems so much like Mona. She's an underdog that likes to copycat one of the main girls and she's a bitch out to get her. Oh, and someone ends up dead and it seems someone might be framing the girls so they have to find out who before they go to jail.

Seriously, it took me like chapter sixteen to actually get into it and slowly stop comparing this book to Pretty Little Liars, but it was hard guys. So hard! I mean, there was two young male characters that were a teacher and a shrink so I'm like, ah man, is there going to be another Aria and Ezra? There's not, thankfully, but the teacher is a total perv. Also, at the funeral the girls huddled together outside, talking and I was wondering so when is the blackmailing text going to begin. There's none, but this felt like Pretty Little Liars, it's insane. I was really hoping for a more original storyline, I didn't expect it to be so alike. Though I loved how much more the girls are diverse from each other in this book, I just couldn't stop thinking about Hanna, Aria, Spencer, & Emily. Seriously, I just couldn't help but think this was apart of the Pretty Little Liars series. It could easily be by how close they are alike.

I just don't know, I enjoyed it but since so many things felt similar to her previous works that I just couldn't get into it right away. I'm just thankful it's a duology and not a fifteen book series. And because there is another book, be prepared that there will be more questions and no answers by the end of it. I'm just glad the second book is coming out soon.

Overall I wished it came out different and I feel like since Pretty Little Liars was/is such a hit for Mrs. Shepard she's like, what the hell, let's write this instead of coming up with another original storyline. I just wished she showed us something different, maybe a book with only one point of view instead of multiples. I don't know what to say, but just be prepared for how similar it is and don't expect anything new. It's the same old, same old. I want something more refreshing from this author as she isn't bad, not at all. She's quite an enjoyable author, so I was expecting something more from her. Something that could stand out from her other works. The mystery part of the book was what held me, Mrs. Shepard surely knows how to spin a good mystery though!

Let's just say I've got really mix feelings about this one and from the prologue I knew this was going to be another Pretty Little Liars.......

A Ghostly Gift (Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries #1.5) by Angie Fox
Publication Date: February 15th, 2015
Genre: Adult Paranormal Mystery
Pages: 41
Format: ebook

Read: May 19th, 2015

~Summary~

From New York Times bestselling author Angie Fox -- a fabulously fun short story in the new Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery series

Verity Long doesn't want to see ghosts, and she'd rather not let anyone know her little secret, either. But when a restless spirit stirs up trouble in her friend's resale shop, Verity and her very new, very dead gangster friend team up to learn what is really happening.

They discover an age-old secret, and must learn the truth behind a mysterious disappearance…before it's too late.

~My Thoughts~

A Ghostly Gift is an absolutely sweet little story! Verity swore to her and her maybe boyfriend Ellis that she would never go ghost hunting again, that helping him was the last time. But when she's offered some free kitchen supplies, her pick of the lot from the antique shop in town, she can't help to say yes to her sister's friend that owns the antique shop. Especially since she had to sale everything she owned in the estate sale and is still broke. Also, if the ghost in the store keeps breaking her most valuable antiques their friend could be looking at loosing her business and Verity knows all too well how that feels.

Though I felt it was a little cheesy when the woman they had to find just showed up at the right time, it was the right kind of cheesy. Not going to lie, the whole ending had me tearing up! And if my husband wasn't home I would have been balling my eyes out! That's what military stories do to me, they're absolutely heartbreaking! And the ending, oh my gosh! I loved it! I was all warm and fuzzy on the inside!

If you loved Southern Spirits then this will quench your craving for the sequel! Angie Fox is so hilarious! When Verity met this 70's ghost I believe in the shop, oh my gosh, I was laughing out loud! That ghost was hitting on her and here's my favorite pick up line he said to her,

"Your name must be Lucky Charms because you're magically delicious"

I cracked up so hard my husband turned around, giving me a look that I was crazy until I told him why I was laughing so hard haha.

If you haven't already checked out this series, then it is a must if you love ghost mysteries! Another great tale to the series and I'm dying for the sequel! A must buy when it comes out!

Book Spotlight: Young Houdini: The Demon Curse (Young Houdini #2) by Simon Nicholson

Young Houdini: the Demon Curse (Young Houdini, #2)
Young Houdini: The Demon Curse (Young Houdini #2) by Simon Nicholson
Publication Date: June 2nd, 2015

~Summary~

Young Harry Houdini is a master magician, an impressive performance artist who dazzles crowds with his daring feats. But when Harry and his friends Billie and Arthur are called to New Orleans by the mysterious Order of the White Crow, the trio is faced with magic of an entirely different kind.

Whispers of voodoo and demonic spells rip through the streets as the city’s mayor continues to suffer from a strange, zombified coma. What’s more, the town is turning blame on the local fisherman—the very community that helped raise Billie. But it soon becomes clear there are other evils at play, and the three friends know something even more sinister is afoot.

To save the city from this truly terrifying evil, Harry will be forced to pull off his most spectacular escape yet!

~Excerpt~

Arthur loosened his tie and pulled in another deep breath. “But where are we? I think it’s safe to say we’re not in New York anymore.”
He stumbled over to the window. Harry and Billie joined him, gripping the windowsill and taking in the scene. More palm trees swept past under a hot, gray sky. The train curved and raced alongside a huge river with a rippling brown surface that glittered in the sun.
“Definitely not New York,” Billie muttered. “Palm trees, that’s the big clue.”
“I’d say we must be two hundred miles south at least, given the palms and the high temperature.” Arthur’s voice had steadied, his English tones neat and precise. “I can’t make head or tail of this. Last thing I properly remember, we were back in the theater in New York, helping Harry with his spectacular escape act, and—”
“And then that letter was delivered, and we opened it.” Billie’s eyes narrowed. “That letter we read, all three of us—and a few seconds later, we were flat on the floor, all three of us, collapsing in some kind of drugged sleep.” Her eyes narrowed even more, and she pointed. “That letter, which is still in your pocket, Harry, right there.”
Harry looked down and flinched. There it was, a folded piece of pale green paper, poking out of his jacket pocket. Arthur was already holding out a handkerchief, and Harry used it to gingerly pull the letter out. He, too, thought back to that moment, the three of them sitting in the theater office. He remembered the act the three of them had just performed, full of the usual tricks involving razor-sharp knives, handcuffs, and fire, and finishing with the most spectacular stunt of all, which involved him escaping from a small iron cage that had been plunged deep into a vat of water. Thrilling stuff, Harry thought with another smile. Then he focused on the letter again.
“There was some sort of dust on the paper, which came away on our fingertips. Now I think of it, I remember that too.” Arthur had taken a magnifying glass from his pocket and was peering through it at the letter. “Gone now, by the looks of it. Still, it certainly was powerful—knocked us out cold.”
“It’s not just the paper we need to think about, but also what the letter actually says. That’s pretty odd too,” muttered Harry, reading it one more time.

To Harry, Billie, and Arthur,

You have impressed us greatly. But your
greatest achievements lie ahead of you—we
will make sure of it.

Sent with the consent of the Order of the
White Crow.

“The Order of the White Crow…” Arthur frowned. “Anyone got the faintest idea what that might be?”
“Nope. In fact, there’s not a single bit of that letter that makes much sense, if you ask me,” Billie said. “This sure is a mystery. Reminds me of the time I woke up and discovered I was tied up in the hold of a shrimp boat off South Carolina, been press-ganged into another crummy job obviously, but it didn’t take me long to escape and—watch out !”
Billie flung herself back against the compartment wall, and Arthur did the same. Harry took care to hold his breath and extended his arm so that he was staring at the letter from as far away as possible. Beneath the handwriting, whitish wisps floated from the page, and more words appeared. Harry carried the letter to the window, where the breeze snatched the wisps away, leaving only the words.

PS Congratulations. If you are reading
these additional remarks, then you are
successfully launched on your mission, and
it is safe to reveal more. Regarding the
suitcases, we apologize, but secrecy is vital,
and so we had to smuggle you out of New
York entirely unseen. Concealed airholes
were drilled, a convenient staple was left
near Harry’s hand for when the drugs
wore off—we expect you managed the rest.
Now, you no doubt wish to be told about our
organization and its purpose. Perhaps it is
simplest to say this: It exists to unmask and
defeat evildoing wherever it may lie, and it
seeks to recruit those capable of helping that
noble cause. Prepare yourselves for your
first investigation.

“That’s some letter,” Arthur said, peering over Harry’s shoulder as the last few wisps drifted away. “Not only coated with knock-out chemical dust, but it’s got some kind of light-activated invisible ink on it too.”
“Sure, but what’s it actually saying?” Billie asked. “It says it’s revealing more, but it’s just making things even more confusing, if you ask me.”
“It’s right about the staple.” Harry held the piece of metal up in his other hand. “I’d have found something else to pick the lock anyway, but it was handy bumping into this straightaway.”
“And guess what? Here are the airholes. Rather small, but they’re there.” Arthur tore back the lining in one of the open suitcases, revealing a row of drilled holes. “Still, defeat evildoing—what’s the meaning of that? As for wanting us to carry out some kind of investigation…” He put his head on one side. “Actually, maybe that bit does make sense.”
It does, thought Harry. He closed his eyes, and his thoughts traveled back again, not just to their time at the theater, but also to the rather unusual events that had taken place shortly before. The whole of New York had been baffled by it—the mysterious disappearance of an elderly stage magician from his dressing room in an inferno of purple fire and smoke. No one had been able to solve it, but he, Billie, and Arthur had investigated the business, and after various adventures—including a break-in at a hotel, a terrifying tightrope walk between two ten-story buildings, the discovery of an ingenious secret doorway, and a showdown with one of Manhattan’s most ruthless villains—they had uncovered everything. And all the time, he reminded himself, someone had been watching them, following them…
“I saw him,” Harry muttered, opening his eyes.
“Saw who?” Billie asked.
“The man who sent us this letter.”
“What?”
“I remember seeing a man watching us from the street when the letter was delivered. About fifty years old, wearing a pale suit…”
“How do you know it was him who sent it?” Arthur frowned. “Just because he was nearby when it arrived, that doesn’t mean anything.”
“I’d seen him before. When we were carrying out our investigation back in New York, he was following us. I’m sure of it.” He closed his eyes and saw him again. Those piercing gray eyes.

~About The Author~

Lyndsay Johnson

LYNDSAY JOHNSON grew up in the wide expanses of Texas, where the only thing stronger than the accents was the state pride. An over-active imagination, tale-telling father, and an encouraging librarian mother lead to her love of all things creative.

When it comes to books on her bedside table, young adult lit has always been a favorite (Blue Balliett, Libba Bray, and JK Rowling, to name a few). But it was actually an old, yellowing copy of Scandinavian Folk and Fairy Tales that planted a particularly relentless seed. Shapeshifters and sea nymphs began forming an idea that would eventually grow into Lyndsay’s debut novel, Fire of the Sea.

When she is not writing, you can find Lyndsay spending time with her family in the Rocky Mountains of Utah. She enjoys sitting in dark ¬theaters, trying new gluten-free recipes, watching breaking storms over the peaks out her window,
and secret naps.

~Summary~

When insecure eighteen-year-old Kailee Hill gets caught tagging Iraq war refugee, Abrahem Yohanna's garage, she's not expecting him to act as her designated driver, hold her hair back when she pukes, or offer to be a shoulder to cry on. But she's failing chemistry and her life is falling apart, so she uses the number Abe leaves her and finds herself with a new tutor.

The two quickly find themselves falling hard for each other. Kailee attacks a local grunt when he calls Abe a "sand nigger" and fights with her veteran brother to be with him. When she learns Abe hasn't told his family about her, she's heartbroken and the couple risks losing everything they've worked to build. To make matters worse, Kailee's previous acts make her the prime suspect in a serious crime. With Kailee behind bars and doubting his feelings for her, Abe must find a way to rescue the girl he loves and win back her affection . And to do that he’ll have to catch a crook…

~About the Author~

I'm a full time ELF keeper and part time writer/blogger/writing instructor. I'm represented by Kathleen Rushall of Marsal Lyons Literary Agency. I like my tea hot, my romance sweet, and my guys chivalrous. Real men hold open doors, refer to you as ma'am, make promises they keep, and aren't afraid to profess their undying love. It's not breakfast if there aren't carbs(at least, not in the South). Fajitas, carnitas, and churros are just few of my favorite things. Bet you can't guess where I'm from ;)
