For a girl who is about to lose her family home,
Releases the ghost of a long-dead gangster,
And opens Verity Long’s eyes to a whole new world.

When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, she’s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekick—she gains the ability see spirits. It leads to an offer she can’t refuse from the town’s bad boy, the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.

Ellis Wyatt is in possession of a stunning historic property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restless—and destructive. He hires Verity to put an end to the disturbances. But soon, Verity learns there’s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.

There’s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn't above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?

~My Thoughts~

I've been reading tons of Ghost Mysteries of late and loving them! Southern Spirits is right up there with them and one series I would love to continue!

I love that in this book we get to see how the main character, Verity, comes into seeing and being able to talk to ghost. And it isn't the usual, of her having a near death experience either. It's actually quite unique on how she comes into seeing them and it sets up the light tone within this book perfectly!

Verity's ex fiancé, whom she left at the alter for good reasons, gave her an old giant urn as one of the gifts he gave to her when they were together. Yes, because nothing says romantic like an old, dusty, gigantic urn to put on ones mantel, right? And not being able to sell it at her estate sale, Verity decides to clean it up in hopes on whomever is going to buy her grandmothers home will want it too. This is where she finds out how much more her ex is scum.

Not only is her ex suing her for leaving him at the alter and spreading rumors around town that she's a gold digger, poor Verity, but he also gave her his great- great uncles ashes. So, not only did he find this ridiculous urn up in his attic and decide it's the perfect gift to give his love instead of the usual chocolates, flowers, or jewelry.....he thinks giving her his dead relative is much more romantic. Isn't her ex just the sweetest? However, she doesn't think it's anyone's ashes in the bottom of the urn but dust. So she dumps them out over a couple of rose bushes and finds out quickly that she just "grounded" a spirit to her grandmothers home.

Frankie is a hoot! He's a 1920's gangster, a real gangster, and when he finds out the house he's stuck to is being sold the next day he leads Verity into a crazy adventure that'll hopefully get them the cash they need to save the house.

Oh boy, I honestly didn't expect anything that went on in this book! I was expecting the usual formula that I've been seeing in Ghost Mysteries (and loving!) where we dive into the mystery and we don't get to see how they came into this business of hunting them but them just telling us as background stories. But in Southern Spirits we get to see Verity's new found talent and way of making a little extra cash from the very beginning! I knew I was wrong about my assumptions the moment I started reading as Angie Fox gives this a fresh and unique twist within the genre!

Overall Southern Spirits is a light fun, funny read that I just couldn't get enough of! It was also creepy, adventurous, and suspenseful too! With twist and turns that kept me on my toes I honestly didn't expect the person that was the one out making trouble for Verity and Ellis. When everything came to light I was totally shocked! I couldn't believe it was that person! Mrs. Fox did a wonderful job with this mystery and I'm dying to continue this series!

Will disturb your being

Sweet Readings Everybody!

*Thank you to Netgalley and Angie for the chance to review this. This in no way effected my opinion on it.*
