~Summary~

Meara Falk always followed her parents' rules, until one night in March when the temptation to let loose changed her life forever. Nine months later, disowned and with a baby on her hip, she discovers werewolves are real after being on the wrong end of one’s teeth and claws.

When her first change is upon her, werewolves attack her home, stealing her son and driving her out of her home. Now she’s looking for the man who kidnapped her baby and turned her life upside down.

A war is brewing between the two packs with Meara’s son being in the center. Will she be able to get her son back before losing everyone she cares about?

~My Thoughts~

*was given a copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinions*

Some of this was reviewed while I was reading, so it might be a bit jumbled haha.
First off I get that sometimes parents are strict, real strict but for god’s sake she 22! You’re yelling at her for being pregnant as if she’s 16! At least she’s out of her teens, that should count for something! (Spoil Alert) And the father was a one night stand, she doesn’t even remember so shouldn’t you have some sympathy for her? (End of spoil alert).
Maybe it’s just me, but that scene just felt so off. Yes, I get that they made rules but still. I don’t know I could be wrong, as one of my working in projects my main girl is pregnant and her mother yelled at her, but then again her mother didn’t want her to end up like her and her family’s reputation. And my character is 19, so there’s clearly a difference here. We’ll just have to see where this goes.
I saw where this went and all I’ve got to say is, huh….huh in like, this didn’t satisfy me and I’m wondering what happened when it came to the writing style. Plus I feel like I’m questioning things even though I understood everything that went on in the book.
Let’s talk about the first, huh. What little did satisfy me was the werewolf aspect, how it’s pure wolves against non-pure wolves, and I enjoyed the history of how the pure wolves came to be. I also liked how the werewolf aspect unfolded but other than those, I wasn’t very satisfied.
I wasn’t a big fan of Meara’s voice. At first I was okay with the little childish take as her and her friends were going out to party and get drunk on Green Beer Day. But as we got deeper into the book, I hoped her voice would change however it never did. So I never was able to care about her like I should have. I mean, stop whining that you may not have been good in bed, it was you first time you’re not supposed to be good! Especially if it’s with a stranger! Now if it was with someone you loved, yeah it’ll be awkward at first but once you get past the barrier all is good.

Wow this is going to be a long review, haha….

Now onto the other problem I had, the writing. It wasn’t bad, needed some edits for sure but my major problem with it was the point of views. I don’t mind that there’s quite a few but I do mind when you shift the point of views from first person to third person. Meara, our main gal, her point of view was always in first person but when we shifted to a secondary character their point of view was in third person. This shift didn’t feel natural to me, I don’t see this happening a lot. And then what was even more unnatural for me was during the third person view some words would change it to first person view, like it didn’t know what view it wanted to be! For example the word “myself” would be said and throw off the balance of the third person view. So again, I feel like this needs a few more rounds of edits.
Lastly I want to talk about the random sex scene. Maybe it wasn’t completely random to other people but for me, it was. Plus, it was so uncomfortable! Though yeah I got a little hot towards it but that’s only cause when I read those scenes my mind goes straight to the love of my life. Other than that, it was completely uncomfortable and my mind was like “WTF, just happened?!” The guy was possessive and totally cheating by using his wolf powers on one of our secondary characters. It was uncomfortable for me because she didn’t totally say yes on her own, like I said the guy used his powers against her. She was a virgin and he pretty much forced her to say yes even though she had no idea what was truly happening, but I did so I wasn’t a fan. You get where I’m coming from?
Overall, this was interesting and I’m curious on where this goes as the ending had a major twist, though I’m not dying to read the sequel. There’s just too many problems for me to be craving for the next one. *shrugs* we’ll just have to see.

Gives you a good haunting

~Excerpt~
As confusing as it was, my body willingly responded to her orders, removing my clothes and getting into what I called doggy position. I kept my eyes on the ground the entire time. I could hear Julian in the cage standing and holding onto the bars. He was quiet, watching everything that was taking place.
“Okay. Now you need to close your eyes. Focus on that feeling in your stomach. Think only of what you feel and let that feeling spreading from your stomach down your legs toward your feet.”
Amanda removed her clothes while she gave me these instructions. I felt her crouch onto the floor in front of me, mimicking her own directions. In a matter of a few seconds, I heard a sudden pooping sound and felt an odd tug at my hips. My skin felt itchy. I wanted nothing more than to roll over and dig into my legs to make the sensation stop.
“Whatever you do, do not scratch. I know you want to, but you’ll regret it if you do. Also don’t be afraid of the sounds. You’ll get used to them in the coming months.” She paused. I assumed she was thinking of what to say next until I heard her moan and more popping sounds echoing in the trailer. I dared to crack open my eyes and glance at her. What I saw was nothing more than grotesque.
Amanda crouched in front of me in obvious agony. Her lower body was covered in fur and bent at odd angles. Her hands had claws sprouting from her fingernails and her face was contorted into something resembling a rodent. Not wanting to see any more of what was happening, I shut my eyes and concentrated on the feelings inside of me.
“Now let the feeling drift up your upper body. This is going to feel even weirder than the back half, but it passes. Again, do not scratch,” Amanda said in an octave lower than normal and more gravelly than her early morning voice.
While I let the adrenaline rush through my entire body, I felt my arms shortening and face stretching. The weirdest feeling was of my ears inching up my skull. It felt like a billion ants crawling across my skin and through my hair. I desperately wanted to scratch, but I feared that my hands too would have the massive claw-like fingernails that Amanda had.
Not once did I feel any pain during this transition, but Amanda obviously did. She moaned and groaned through the entire process. When it felt like my entire body had the feeling from my stomach coursing through every inch, I opened my eyes. Before me was a gorgeous grey wolf with yellow eyes staring at me. The room itself was in muted colors with a few exceptions of color popping out. Julian was the brightest spot in the room; his life force begged for me to go to it. I felt this urge to hunt and to protect him.
The wolf in front of me stepped in front of Julian and stared me down. Inside of my head, I heard, He is not prey and you will need to eat. You are a werewolf, Meara. You must learn to contain your urges and recognize the difference between prey and family.
She walked over to me and gently bit my ear to pull my head to the ground. She climbed on top of my belly and licked my snout.
Family.

  1. Thanks for the honest review. It's my first book, so I am exploring my writing style. I will definitely take your thoughts into consideration when I write more, but the rest of the series will probably be very much the same because I don't like when the writing changes in the middle of a series. If you decide to read the second book, I hope it is more satisfying for you.
