Release Date: 07/20/15
Summary from Goodreads:
Freak!
Oddball!
Crazy!
Loser!
The world sees Abby as unsavory, making her feel isolated. But she most certainly isn’t alone. Everywhere she turns she hears disembodied voices, sees things move as if by unseen hands. Bullies constantly torment her, threatening what remains of her sanity. Her mother is too busy trying to fix her craziness to see what is truly happening.
Abby is tired of the world around her, and wants nothing more than to escape. When her life spirals out of control, she is invited to Hildebranch Academy, a school for spirited kids like her. Can Abby learn to live a normal life?
~Excerpt~
“They're coming for you. I heard them talking...”
Damn. Apparently, her friendly apparition decided to follow her home.
Well, this just sucked. Not only did the
ghost have to follow her, it had to make her worry about being jumped on the
way home. Abby shook off
the icy frost
that tickled her skin
as it raced
up her body.
The cold made every inch of her body feel as if it
were on the verge of some kind of panic attack. And while she wanted to brush
the ghost aside, the voice had never been wrong. The spirit had only started
talking to her before school started this year, but so far, it seemed to be
looking out for her.
Sure enough. “Where you heading, Abby Cadabby?”
Referring to her as a character from Sesame Street did not phase her in
the least. Heck, if she were truly some spritely muppet fairy, she'd wave her
magic wand and wish herself away from here in
a heartbeat. Too
bad she left
her fairy dust
at home today.
Abby refused to
take their bait. Instead, she continued to walk down the
sidewalk, her eyes shuttered against the catcalls which were sure to follow.
“Hey girls, let's show her our favorite spot.”
This time Abby turned her head to look at the girls. Meghan's cronies
linked their arms in hers and held her
tight so she
couldn’t get away
from them. Abby's
heart started to
beat in her throat, and she
thought for a moment the fear creeping up her spine was going to make her lose
what little she had eaten today.
“I told you. You should have run.” Run? What good would that do? Somehow
the brat pack always found her. Shrinking into herself, Abby wished she could
find her voice, but as usual, it seemed lost the moment
Meghan entered the
room. What was
it about a
bully that rendered
one so useless? Abby
liked to think
it was because
Meghan was surrounded
by her cronies,
but who was
she kidding? If it had been Meghan alone, she would have been too
frightened to move. This was how she had been conditioned to think over the
years.
~About the Author~
Author Emma Bloom, that’s me! I was born in southern Illinois and am the youngest in my family. From an early age I found a great love for reading and dreamed of one day creating books that would capture the minds of young readers. I am an avid lover of all things paranormal, even though I admit I’m the first to duck and cover in a haunted house.
