Slide (Slide #1) by Jill Hathaway
Publication Date: March 27th 2012
Genre: YA Fantasy
Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.
Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.
Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.
Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.
Cheesy Word: Fascinating
Okay, so here it is....I felt there wasn't much mystery or more like there wasn't enough of one for the readers to have fun at solving it. Yes, there was a little bit of thinking but for a mystery it didn't seem like much. Not much depth in it where the main character Vee was doing a lot of snooping. You know, like Nancy Drew. I felt like Vee just fell in just at the right moments and then she would get a little hint but she wouldn't go digging for more, you know.
I mean if you knew the girl who died and you just happen to slide into the mind of the killer while they were still at the crime scene, wouldn't you do some major digging? I sure as hell would! Plus, the conclusion seemed to come to soon and when Vee and the killer came face to face I was ready for a whole blown out action scene. Yea, ladies and gentlemen, don't get your hopes up here. That part....sucked! I was like, that's all! And then what happen to the killer.....major, major let down. I mean, face palm people!
Okay, breathe, haha.
The story mostly stayed tuned on Vee's life and her sliding ability, which to say the least, is pretty damn cool. We get to go on a ride with her as she tries to keep her family together as her sister's best friend and someone else close to her sister, dies. And all the while, she too is going through something. Vee is strong and with her father gone to all the time with work she has to be, as her mother passed away 5 years ago.
Overall, this was a pretty good read. Living as Vee and going through the emotions with her, was an adventure. The writing is smooth and you'll just melt into this world. The characters are all different yet they mesh well. And developing them is like any first novel. Also, I was happy with the ending and glad she picked the right guy for her.
A fun ride and I can't wait for the next one, even though this one turned out differently than what I was expacting.
Most definitely recommand ^_^
