Review: Slide

Slide (Slide #1) by Jill Hathaway
Publication Date: March 27th 2012
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 250

Summary

Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.

Cheesy Word: Fascinating

Okay, so here it is....I felt there wasn't much mystery or more like there wasn't enough of one for the readers to have fun at solving it. Yes, there was a little bit of thinking but for a mystery it didn't seem like much. Not much depth in it where the main character Vee was doing a lot of snooping. You know, like Nancy Drew. I felt like Vee just fell in just at the right moments and then she would get a little hint but she wouldn't go digging for more, you know.

I mean if you knew the girl who died and you just happen to slide into the mind of the killer while they were still at the crime scene, wouldn't you do some major digging? I sure as hell would! Plus, the conclusion seemed to come to soon and when Vee and the killer came face to face I was ready for a whole blown out action scene. Yea, ladies and gentlemen, don't get your hopes up here. That part....sucked! I was like, that's all! And then what happen to the killer.....major, major let down. I mean, face palm people!

Okay, breathe, haha.

The story mostly stayed tuned on Vee's life and her sliding ability, which to say the least, is pretty damn cool. We get to go on a ride with her as she tries to keep her family together as her sister's best friend and someone else close to her sister, dies. And all the while, she too is going through something. Vee is strong and with her father gone to all the time with work she has to be, as her mother passed away 5 years ago.

Overall, this was a pretty good read. Living as Vee and going through the emotions with her, was an adventure. The writing is smooth and you'll just melt into this world. The characters are all different yet they mesh well. And developing them is like any first novel. Also, I was happy with the ending and glad she picked the right guy for her.

A fun ride and I can't wait for the next one, even though this one turned out differently than what I was expacting.

Most definitely recommand ^_^

"Zoey." I kneeled at her side and took her hands in mine. "Are you okay?"
She stopped coughing and gazed up at me. "I think I need mouth-to-mouth."
"Oh, brother," I said. "yeah, you're fine."

Totally cute book and review to come! ^_^

I wanted to hit him again- God, I wanted to- but I didn't have time. Instead I dropped his head and quickly wiped my fingers on my breeches, then straightened, holding on to the splintered remains of the rake.

Why I Couldn't Finish It (2)

I can just say this. You probably want see this very often. Because in my opinion, not finishing a book is a waste. And I try to finish every book that I start. So, this is a rarity.

Summary

Sixteen-year-old Chastity and her mother have been on the run since Chass was a baby, assuming new identities in every town. She doesn't know why they are running, who her father is, or even her real name. But then on the night of Chass's sixteenth birthday, her mother disappears. The cops find her abandoned car, blood matching her DNA, and a purse containing six ID cards. Chass can't believe her mother is dead; she knows that her mom just had to go on the run again, this time to protect Chass. Chastity has only six days to find her mother before she's put into foster care—but someone else is looking for Chass. Someone deadly.

Okay, I'm not going to say this book is bad. So, if your looking for that then stop reading. The book kinda irritated and annoyed me, but it wasn't exactly bad. I say that because in a different persons hands, if it was written differently, or if a few things were changed, it could have been a good book.

Okay, so, first: The main character Chass. I only read like eighty pages, so she might get better, but I didn't like her. She seemed mean half the time, stupid a quarter of the time, and paranoid the rest of the time. I understand being paranoid, but she was a little over the top.

Which brings me to stupid. When she was hitchhiking in the middle of the night and she saw the car, she commented that the car was suspicious. She said that, but she got in anyway. I'm just saying, if it's the middle of the night and nobody knows where you are, and you have a bad feeling about the car, don't get in it. It's just that simple. Where was the paranoid part.

And then there was the guitar thing. She knew her mother wouldn't like it and she was dreading opening the present. At first she said she couldn't keep it, then when Ben tried to take it back she refused. She pretty much freaked out, yelled at her Mom, and forced Ben to play with her till their fingers bled.

Second: I didn't see the mystery. Yeah, her mom was missing. Yeah, when they found her car and purse, they found all the fake IDs. But that was it. It just didn't seem that different. I was hoping for more. And maybe there was more but I just didn't want to read more.

Third: I just didn't care. It didn't make me care. With some books they start out slow, but you keep reading to find out what happens. With this one, I didn't want to find out. I didn't want to keep reading. And truthfully, I doubted it was going to get better.

So, in the end, I am happy this is just a library book. It didn't take me long to find out I wasn't going to like it. To start with, my hopes weren't as high as the sky, but they were a lot higher then the book got. But, once again, I'm not going to call this a bad book.

I can almost guaratee that I'm not going to finish this book. So, if any of you read it, tell what you think, if it gets better or you just want to rant about it.

Happy Monday and Happy Reading.

Review: Ditched: A love Story

Ditched: A Love Story by Robin Mellom
Publication Date: January 10th 2012
Genre: YA Contemporary
Pages: 277
Goodreads

Summary

THERE'S A GIRL.
Justina Griffith was never the girl who dreamed of going to prom. Designer dresses and strappy heels? Not her thing. That said, she never expected her best friend, Ian Clark, to ask her.

AND THERE'S A BOY.
Ian, who always passed her the baseball bat, handle first.

Ian, who knew exactly when she needed red licorice.

Ian, who promised her the most amazing night at prom.

THEN THERE'S A DITCH.
But when Justina is ditched, figuratively and literally, she must piece together--stain-by-stain on her thrift store dress--exactly how she ended up dateless...with only the help of some opinionated ladies at the 7-Eleven.

To get the whole store, Justina will have to face the boy who ditched her. Can losing out at her prom ultimately lead to finding true love?

Okay, from now on once in a while I'm going to change up my reviews cause I'm really having a bad case of Reviewers Block -_- Sucks? Yes. But I'm hoping this new thing I'm doing will help that out *crosses fingers*

Okay, now for the review-

Cheesy Word: Hooked

Pros:

This is a fun light hearted story
The sweet little romance will sweep you away
The adventures you go on with the main character and her friends are a blast and they will put a smile on any ones face
The characters are fun and they all know how to stand out in their own ways
The book is written well and you'll just want to stay in this world once you finish the last page
And the ending was exactly what I was hoping for ^_^

Cons:

The main character, Justina- Always, always jumping to a conclusion before getting all her facts straighten out first, about half way through the book it started to get a little old and I just wanted to shake this girl and scream "Wake up!"

Overall, there's more pros than cons so whoopy, haha. The book was great, like the scene where her dress zipper comes off and how two girls, that are fun because they don't go to this stuck up school like the main character does, actually finds an unusual way to fix it. That was....interesting. Haha, all I have to say is it deals with something a stoner would use, though I promise it isn't what you are thinking. I most definitely recommend this book to anyone and of all ages!

Happy Reading Everybody!

Review: The Secret Scroll

The Secret Scroll by Lynne Ewing
Publication Date: April 30, 2001
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 268

Summary

Catty has always wanted to find out who her birth mother was, and oddly enough, she has the power to allow her to do just that. When Catty goes back in time, she not only manages to meet her mother, but she also finds out some very disturbing truths about her identity and her fate.

I'm starting to get tired of the series. It's not the books are bad, but it just doesn't feel like it's getting anywhere. And I might rant a little bit.

Then she saw Vanessa, lying on the ground. She got up and went to her. She knelt beside her, cradled her, and held her tightly. In the flashing glow from the lighting, Vanessa's face looked pallid and sickly. Her eyes no longer focused and her heartbeat felt weak and slow.

So, the book's a lot like the other ones. Th characters don't develop more unless they were the main character. And even than not much. The plot follows the same pattern. And nothing really happens til the end.

One thing that really bugs me is that there is a whole lot in the book that doesn't need to be there. It's happened in all the books. I meaan, you could take this book and the last one, both over two hunder pages, take out some of the useless stuff and probably have a three hundred page book, at most.

When you sort out all the main plots and need info for character development, the books are good. But, the books just seemed cluttered. Which is saying something considering nothing really is going on.

The series has potental, but it's just not there. The writing could be better. The plot could use some cleaning up. And the characters need to be a lot more developed. An I just don't know if it will happen.

The book is'nt great. And there are flaws. But, it does have some entertanment vaulue. And I can't bring myself to rate it lower then a three.

I'm Sorry!

Pretty much I'm so, so sorry for not really being here. Mainly for the constant book reviews. It's not that I haven't been reading. I have. A lot! And it's not that they have been bad stories where I would want to rate them one hearters. Nope! It's just I don't feel like reviewing, like something is blocking my mind. I just don't want to keep having the same words repeat and repeat throughout all my reviews. Ya know?

So, I've been trying to do short reviews, you know, straight to the point to why I liked and why I didn't liked. But, it still doesn't feel....right. I don't know. But I know I'm not here to make any excuses for you to why I haven't been doing them. Cause I don't have any. I just have reviewers block. Fun!

And, so this post is for me to apologize to my followers and readers that just come out of the blue. My sister has done a great job at keeping it going and I truly, truly appreciate it. Really! And I truly appreciate all you readers still coming to check out the blog even though there's not much going on right now.

So mostly, I'm truly sorry. Really I am. And I'm sorry I haven't yet have my One Year Birthday Giveaway. That's because I'm pretty much broke right now. And now I'm looking into getting a job, so, good luck to me on that haha.

So, I'll be working on that soon and working on my reviewers block. Though if some of you may have any tips on how to push through this I would love to hear them ^_^

Thank you again on sticking with us and again I am sorry for not really being here. I promise I'll be back soon with my groove of reviews :)

Happy Reading Everybody!

Also, if you want to see updates on what I'm reading you can check out my Goodreads page. I finally got one!

And here you can check out what Tasha's up to with her reading too, click!

Love you guys <3 and thanks again!

Waiting on Wednesday (39)

Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday! Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases we are eagerly anticipating. This week I am anxiously awaiting:

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3) by Rick Riordan
Publication Date: October 2, 2012
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 608

Summary

In The Son of Neptune, Percy, Hazel, and Frank met in Camp Jupiter, the Roman equivalent of Camp Halfblood, and traveled to the land beyond the gods to complete a dangerous quest. The third book in the Heroes of Olympus series will unite them with Jason, Piper, and Leo. But they number only six--who will complete the Prophecy of Seven?
The Greek and Roman demigods will have to cooperate in order to defeat the giants released by the Earth Mother, Gaea. Then they will have to sail together to the ancient land to find the Doors of Death. What exactly are the Doors of Death? Much of the prophesy remains a mystery. . . . With old friends and new friends joining forces, a marvelous ship, fearsome foes, and an exotic setting, The Mark of Athena promises to be another unforgettable adventure by master storyteller Rick Riordan.

I'm a huge fan of the Percy Jackson series. And Rick, himself. I loved the first two (second one little more then the first. Mostly because it had Percy in it.) and I can't wait, and I mean that literally, to get my hands on this one.

Spark (Elemental Seires #2) by Brigid Kemmerer
Publication Date: August 28th 2012

Summary

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally.

Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can’t. Like the fire that killed his parents.

Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick. But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he’s not doing it.

More than Gabriel’s pride is at stake -- this could cost him his family, maybe his life. And no one seems to hear him. Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Layne understands family problems, and she understands secrets. She has a few of her own.

Gabriel can’t let her guess about his brothers, about his abilities, about the danger that’s right at his heels. But there are some risks he can’t help taking.

The fuse is lit…

I freakin LOVED the first book, Storm, staring Chris and the prequel, Elemetnal, staring Michael. So you know I'm dying to read this one. And guess what, my boyfriend is so awesome he's going to buy it for me <3, so excited! haha ^_^

With all the action, romance and swoon worthy guys sweeping up the pages, this series is a MUST! And I just can't wait to get inside Gabriel's head, he is the top favorite brother of mine.

But then something occurred to me, What if it wasn't random? What if Mom had been moving to each place intentionally? What if the whole eyes-closed/finger-on-the-map thing was a charade designed to make it seem as though we were moving to each  new town by accident?

Review: The Long Way Home

The Long Way Home (The Homelanders #2) by Andrew Klavan
Publication Date: February 2,2010
Genre: YA Thriller
Pages: 345

Summary

Charlie West went to bed one night an ordinary high school student, but when he woke up, he was a hunted man. Terrorists are trying to kill him. The police want to arrest him for the death of his best friend. With his pursuers closing in on every side, Charlie makes his way back to his hometown to find some answers.

This series continues to be a surprise to me. I liked the first one a lot, and I might actually like this one more. So, any series that can do that is off to a good start.

The killer's body went spinning through the air. He landed with a thud that shook the floor, just a few yards away from me. The jar of the fall made him lose his hold on the knife, but he quickly grabbed it again.

The action starts on page one. It does slow down in middle of the book. But, it never completely comes to a stop, so it easily picks back up at the end. The mystery was there through out the book. You do find out a lot about the early part of the year Charlie lost, so that was nice.

Charlie does still remembers a few things, so you do jump back in time. But the jumps are at better spots. So you're not in the middle of an action scene and then you are in the middle of a class room.

There were more characters in this one, so you get to see Charlie interact with other teenagers. Josh is the smart one. He seems like the most useful. Rick and Miler are just some old friends that are there for support. Beth is Charlie's girlfriend and is pretty much the damsel in distress for Charlie.

Charlie was better in this one. He doesn't have long speeches of how great America is. He still believes that and he does say it, its just not the main thing he says. He seems a lot calmer, like he grew up a little in between the two books. He does doubt himself a little, which, in my opinion, makes him a little more believable.

The book was very solid. The writing was good. The plot was great. And the characters got better. It continued prettywell from the first book. It did end in a cliffhangr, but it did feel like an ending and it fit. There where a few thing that I didn't like, but nothing big and nothing worth metioning. So, I completely recommend this book and series.

I cried out as I wrenched the bike's handlebars. The tires of the onrushing sedan screeched as the car swerved in the opposite direction. We passed eachh other by inches, so close I felt the side of the car flick at the cloth of my jeans.

Review: Demons and Druids

Demons and Druids (Daniel X #3) by James Patterson and Adam Sadler
Publication: July 26, 2010
Genre: YA Science Fiction
Pages: 243

Summary

Daniel X's hunt to eliminate each and every intergalactic criminal on Earth is always relentless, but this time, it's getting personal. Number Three on the List of Alien Outlaws takes the form of raging, soul-possessing fire. And fire transports Daniel back to the most traumatic event of his life-the death of his parents.

In the face of his "kryptonite", Daniel struggles with his extraordinary powers like never before, and more than ever is at stake: his best friends are in grave peril. The only way to save them is to travel back-through a hole in time-to the demon's arrival during the Dark Ages. Rip-roaring action and humor sets the pages afire in this gripping time-travel adventure with an Arthurian cast-and countless other surprises!

First thing I want to say is the book is about aliens but the authors were still able to get a vampire in there. Granted it was alien vampire but do you really have to stick it there?

The dragon scurried up the wall like a centipede, arched its neck, and took a bite out out of a coal deposit in the ceiling. The sound of grinding rocks echoed through the chamber. Pebbles as big as my clenched fists rained down from its jaw.

The plot was okay. I wish it was a little more thought out. It just seemed like they make Daniel out to be this great Alien Hunter that knows all the tricks. Then they almost kill him and make him have little control over his powers. And I get that it would suck to see your friends die, but they're not real and Daniel could just recreate them. Maybe that's a little mean.

The characters are almost exactly the same as the last two. Not a whole lot of growth. You find out Daniel is afraid of fire. Well, maybe they said that before but I don't remember. I wish Daniel's sister and his other friends were in it more. Though, you a couple interesting characters.

In truth, I'm actually kind of neutral about this book. I thought the first two were better. Will I read the next one? If the library has it. Do I recommend it? If you like the series.

Summer Songs (16)

This weekend I'm feeling for two ^_^

First one is a favorite for all my friends and whenever if comes we boom it up haha

Lights by Ellie Goulding

And then second is a new song-

Ready or Not by Bridgit Mendler

In this song she reminds me a lot of Natasha Bedingfield. At least, that's my opinion.

Enjoy &
