Book Review: The Overnight (Fear Street #3) by R.L Stine

The Overnight (Fear Street #3) by R.L Stine
Publication Date: August 1st, 1991
Genre: YA Horror
Pages: 148

~Summary~

"Nothing bad will happen," Della O'Connor assures her friends in the Outdoors Club. So what if their advisor can't go on the overnight to Fear Island—won't it be more fun with no adults around?

But it's no fun at all when Della gets lost in the woods, and the dangerous stranger appears, whispering threats, driving her to a violent act.

Suddenly all of her friends are involved, prisoners in a conspiracy of silence, trying to conceal the terrible truth. But someone saw what Della did. And he's threatening them all, forcing them back to Fear Island to find the evidence they forgot to bury...

~My Thoughts~

This book reminded me a lot of I Know What You Did Last Summer as it had some of the big key elements as that story had. Like there was an accident causing someone to die, there were the mystery notes saying I saw what you did, and the creep who liked scaring the wits out of these kids but none of the kids died so I was a little disappointed. Throughout I was hoping it would turn out different, like it was a mental one where it’s all in the main characters mind. However that's not where the story leads to.

In the beginning this was a story about a girl hoping an overnight at Fear Island with friends was her chance at getting back with her ex-boyfriend. But her luck turns for the worst when she runs into a crazy stranger out in the middle of the woods. This is where the trouble begins for the group of kids. And since the kids were out there when they shouldn’t have been as this was a school club trip that got canceled they decided to hide their mistake.

I don't know, now that I am writing this out and actually thinking back to what I read I see now it was an okay read. I did have some moments where I was sitting on the edge of my seat but as it seemed too much like the move I Know What You Did Last Summer it really wasn’t a big shock to the ending or there weren’t many twist and turns within the stories plot, which saddens me.

Every time something would happen or seemed there was going to be a turn on this horror story road I would get a bit disappointed when nothing surprising happened. So everything with this book was just okay. The characters I didn't really care much for or had major sympathy for. Well maybe just a couple I did but they were only the secondary characters, none of the main ones. And the plot itself was okay but like I said it was bit too much like I Know What You Did Last Summer so it’s giving me a bleh feeling. Sadly what I enjoy most about the Fear Street books wasn't in this one, I enjoy hearing the story of close friends dying and their friends trying to solve why cause that is what this series is mostly about.

Gives you a good haunting

On My Mind Mondays (3) Kendra isn't up in the Tower

On My Mind Monday with Paranormal Sisters!

Where every Monday we pick a topic and tell you our thoughts on it. It might be weekly or every other week. Haven't decided yet. And if you have a topic you want our thoughts on, post a comment and we might decide to do it.

Apparently there was an confusion in the air and upon Amazon and Goodreads that the latest book by Alex Flinn, Towering, was a part of the Kendra Chronicles. But the thing is, there isn't much of a series right now for Kendra and Towering is sure not even close to being a part of it. Mrs. Flinn has cleared that up in a post and I just thought I'd help spread the news of it.
Why? Cause I absolutely enjoy Mrs. Flinn's work, well except for one but that's besides the point haha. And I don't want any reviews for Towering to be lowered cause of this mistake. A mistake I am absolutely happy that’s been cleared up cause when I do get to the book I don't want to be disappointed when I don’t see her in there. So thank you Mrs. Flinn for clearing that up. And thank you to Liliana from LiliLostInABook to fixing it on Goodreads!

Here’s some quotes from the post:

“Unfortunately, Amazon and Goodreads for some reason are stating that Towering is part of a series, The Kendra Chronicles. It isn't. Kendra isn't in the book.”

“Anyway, Towering is a fairy tale book, but Kendra is not in it. It's too cold for her up there.”

If you want to check out the post by the author here it is: Kendra is not in Towering

Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 304

~Summary~

At first, I merely saw his face, his hands on the window ledge. Then, his whole body as he swung himself through the window. Only I could not see what he swung on.
Until, one day, I told my dream self to look down. And it was then that I saw. He had climbed on a rope. I knew without asking that the rope had been one of my own tying.

Rachel is trapped in a tower, held hostage by a woman she’s always called Mama. Her golden hair is growing rapidly, and to pass the time, she watches the snow fall and sings songs from her childhood, hoping someone, anyone, will hear her.

Wyatt needs time to reflect or, better yet, forget about what happened to his best friend, Tyler. That’s why he’s been shipped off to the Adirondacks in the dead of winter to live with the oldest lady in town. Either that, or no one he knows ever wants to see him again.

Dani disappeared seventeen years ago without a trace, but she left behind a journal that’s never been read, not even by her overbearing mother…until now.

A #1 New York Times bestselling author, Alex Flinn knows her fairy tales, and Towering is her most mind-bending interpretation yet. Dark and mysterious, this reimagining of Rapunzel will have readers on the edge of their seats wondering where Alex will take them next!

So this is what I found out yesterday and I just had to tell you guys!

For centuries, Wonderland thrived as the domain of beautiful bedlam and unapologetic madness. It was a place like no other. For Gwen, Rose, and Lucky, Wonderland is home, and yet they know little of its former glory. {Giveaway} Six month Anniversary for The Harvesters!

~Re-edited and better than ever~

So a while back it was brought to my attention that my short story needed a bit of editing, I couldn’t decide between past or present tense and so the story just couldn’t flow right. While I got feedback from Ali’s ~Ginger-Read Reviews~ daughter a truth came out from my #1 editor. While my editor was editing someone told them to go easy on me, not overly critique it and because of that I didn’t notice the change of past and present tense in my writing. I don’t blame my editor in the least bit and I’m just glad that I found this out before it got too late in the game haha.

Anyways, I followed the feedback and now it’s more kickass than before. So thank you guys so much! I honestly needed that ^_^.

There are some new scenes, action packed of course and a little bit of new info. Now sadly Kindle Publishing has changed and my awesomesauce font for my headings and what not, didn’t get transferred over and I am absolutely sad. So I’ll have to look more into that. But besides that step back it’s all running good and is ready to be read by all bookworm horror fans!

Now the story (just in case you happen to be new -_^)….

"The story is written well and the pacing is perfect, especially for such a short story. There's a lot of action, but there is also time for the characters to think back about what got them in this situation in the first place."

Our Teasers This Week. . .

“So, you guys are like us in other, uh, departments?”

Daemon sat up, arching a brow. “Come again?”

I felt my cheeks flush. “You know, like sex? I mean, you guys are all glowy and stuff. I don’t see how certain stuff would work.”

Daemon’s lips curled into a half smile, and that was the only warning he gave. Moving unbelievably fast, I was on my back and he was above me in a flash. “Are you asking if I’m attracted to human girls?” he asked. Dark, wet waves of hair fell forward. Tiny droplets of water fell off the ends, splashing against my cheek. “Or are you asking if I’m attracted to you?”

Using his hands, he lowered himself slowly. There wasn’t an inch of space between our bodies. Air fled my lungs at the contact of his body against mine. He was male and ripped in all the places I was soft. Being this close to him was startling, causing an array of sensations to zing through me. I shivered. Not from the cold, but from how warm and wonderful he felt. I could feel every breath he took, and when he shifted his hips, my eyes went wide and I gasped.

Review: Ghoulfriends Forever (Monster High #1) by Gitty Daneshvari

Ghoulfriends Forever

Ghoulfriends Forever (Monster High #1) by Gitty Daneshvari
Publication Date: September 5th 2012
Genre: Childrens/YA Paranormal
Pages: 272
Source: Bought

~Summary~

Ghoulfriends Forever is a brand-new Monster High series, introducing three new monster characters. As new students, the trio must navigate the bewildering array of cute monster boys, established cliques, and monster-rific subjects like Mad Science, G-ogre-phy, and Physical Deaducation.

As if that weren't hard enough, something strange and sinister seems to be happening at the school. Popular girls like Frankie Stein and Cleo de Nile are acting weird-and all signs point to everyone's new favorite teacher, Miss Sylphia Flapper. Can the new GFFs expose the fave as a fraud, or will they succumb to peer pressure?

~My Thoughts~

I just absolutely love Monster High and this book made it so much more real for the book worm that I am ha-ha. This new series is so much more true to what Monster High is and it was so much fun seeing this world get turned into words for us fans to read.
In this book some things seem a little different from the webseries like this school is actually a boarding school. However, other than that it stays very true to the show and very true to the characters.
In the beginning we get to meet Rochelle Goyle as it’s moving in day for the freshmen. So we get a tour of the school from Miss Sue Nami (love her character) and the description of the monsters world is so amazing it'll make the child in you flutter with joy. After we get to meet her the chapters alternate between her and two other characters, Venus McFlytrap and Robecca Steam.
I really enjoyed reading about all of them and getting to know them better. Its’ really cool to see that there is a series out there that isn't about the main group of monster’s from Monster High, it’s nice to see the side characters step up to the plate. Rochelle has to be my favorite, I love her culture and her constant following of rules. Her species follows a moral code and they are very knowledgeable of facts and it was fun being behind her eyes. She was absolutely sweet and her caring side got her into some sticky situations.
Venus was my second favorite. I love her punk style with her half shaven head. She is one that truly stands out to me. Not only does she have a punk look but she's got a hippie heart as she is a plant species so she has her heart on saving the planet. Then lastly you got Robecca, I liked her but I didn’t connect to her or fell for her character. She seemed a bit immature for me and her constant at being late for things kind of got to me. Yes, that's her personality, being late for things but that side of her personality didn’t boat well for me. Other than that she started to grow on me.
Now the little crushes going on throughout the book they are sweet and perfectly innocent which will put a smile on your face. I loved Rochelle's struggle with being apart from her boyfriend who lives in Scaris and I enjoyed the sweet Cyclops that is there to protect Robecca from any harm. And there is a lot of harm as the students in school begin to change and start to worship this new teacher.
Overall I enjoyed this and any fan of Monster High will love this or at least enjoy the fact that it got turned into words for us. It was a blast to see this world in another way and I can't wait for the next book to come. The only thing that made me sad about this was that we didn't get a reason why the school is being targeted. So the mystery will be running into the next book.

Will disturb your being
