~Summary~

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

~My Thoughts~

I bought this book because of its raving reviews, because it was aliens and aliens in young adult have yet to shoot off like many other paranormal creatures (thankfully), so I was suspecting originality. And then months later after I bought it (New Year’s Eve) I pick it up as a research project. I wanted to make sure my working in progress wasn’t going to end up like this one.....again, I thought it was going to be an original. But thankfully mine is so not even close to this one.
Going into this after reading all the outstanding reviews I was expecting to have my mind blown. Yeah, always a bad idea. My mind wasn't. It just wasn't blown like everyone else's. I guess if you like the ever favorite relationship where the guy is a hater and wants to cause fights with the main girl, than this is your book. Actually, I don't mind him. At the end of the book we got to read three chapters from Daemon's point of view. Yeah, so much better than what I got from Katy's view.
She and her life is pretty much like most main characters in the paranormal world are. With the many cliché’s and same old, I just couldn't help but roll my eyes. And don't even get me started on the similar stuff I saw in here that are from Twilight too. Hey, if you're a fan of Twilight then I believe this is a perfect book for you. Though I like that she has a backbone, so not like Bella there.
Now I don't want to turn this into a rant so I'll start talking about the things I did like. For one, the aliens themself. Once we got to see their true form that's when awesome things started to happen. And just them in general, is pretty amazing. I loved their true form and there, there was some originality people. Second thing I liked (and something most bloggers love) is that Katy too is a blogger herself. Yeah, bonus points there. I also liked that Katy wasn’t a stick. She's got curves and a soft stomach, I love that. However the picture on the cover, she looks like a stick with an hour glass figure with big boobs on the side. So that kind of takes away her image within the book.
But pretty much this was a letdown for me and as I think about it there wasn’t many stand out moments. Things I could truly fall in love with. This was just another paranormal book that can blend well on a bookshelf, besides all the others. Yes, there was some great action and I was sitting on the edge of my seat. This and it being aliens is what held me, kept me in tune with it. But if you took those two factors away, it wouldn't be much of a book. Sorry, but it’s true.
However, I will continue the series. Why? Cause I'm curious and I liked at the end of this book Katy and Daemon aren’t really together yet, that was a shock. So I'm curious to see how that'll play out. Plus in future books we get to see more of Daemons point of view and I am quite excited for that. If only this whole series was in his point of view then I would have rated this so much higher.

Gives you a good haunting

Happy Reading Everybody!

  1. As soon as I opened your blog, I knew I would love it - you have one of my favourite songs in the header. <3 Did you see The Host? It was featured in that movie. I'm also curious to read Obsidian, even though it's so hyped up I hope I won't be disappointed. x

  2. @Summer- Aw, thanks and yes, it is a hit around here haha ^_^. I have yet to see it but that's what made me notice the song!

Yes, check it out if you enjoy paranormal reads but because of the hype (and there is a bunch of it around for this book) try to keep your expections low so you won't end up disappointed like me.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope this review helped in any way!
